Stationary Targeting[edit]

Having played a Ranger quite often, and looked at other classes which use ranged combat, I think it would be a lot less frustrating if you could actually keep your character pinned in place and not have them automatically advance to approach opponents who are out of range. Consider formation tactics: A line of archers who remain rooted in place, and only open fire if someone enters their range. In a recent dungeon, I was attempting to 'pull' opponents towards my group (PvE), but my Ranger would keep closing the distance to them, rather than waiting for them to pass within my range, thus moving me out of range of my healers.

Why This Is A Good Idea It would allow formation fighting if a character were able to hold their ground rather than run after opponents who are closing. Better formations allows for better tactics, and weaker character builds (healers, second-line fighters such as Rangers) wouldn't go running into combat and getting slaughtered.

Why It May Not Work Out It would make disrupting opponents a little harder, since they would be less likely to break up into smaller mobs. It would also need a new key-command (holding down a button while issuing the attack command or something), plus programming this to work with Hero AI.
