Make FA and JQ Team Based instead of Random (Discussion)[edit]

ANet should consider using the same Team system of ABing in competitive missions such as Fort Aspenwood.

Why this is a good idea
  •

If you play Competitive missions FA/JQ, you will often encounter a leecher(or more than one) on your team, because it is random. Many people who play in those missions are getting angry at the fact that those characters just stand there and do nothing, but earn the same rewards that you had to fight hard for. Most players are reluctant to report due to the fact that they recieve dishonor points, if more members of the team do not backup their report(which is often the case). It is very difficult to find at least 2 other members of your team ready to report too. In the event you don't, the leecher does not recieve dishonor points, the leecher recieves all the rewards, the leecher is gonna come back in the next round to leech again.

How to stop leeching? Simple answer: Make those missions team based instead of random. Similar to Alliance Battles, maybe 2 teams of 4, or 1 team of 8. If we have the RIGHT and CHOICE to decide who will get on the team, we surely(being responsible enough) won't allow neither botter nor leecher in the team. In addition, if you see a leecher/botter in your team and your team leader refuses to kick them, you still have the choice of leaving the team and joining another.

1. This removes all botters/leechers who are achieving Savior of the Kurzicks/Luxons faster than someone who PvPs a lot fairly(since the botters are there almost 24/7 while fair players aren't) 2. Your team will be way more balanced class-wise, and same goes for the opposing team, meeting a challenging and more fun battle 3. You can actually go with a team of friends in there, instead of hoping that you will all be on the same team(from random), and somebody get left out...disappointing

This can definitely be implemented, the team system is already currently being used in alliance battles...just use it for FA and JQ. Players happier and bots becoming useless, two birds in one stone isn't it?

Why this is a bad idea
  • The balance of Fort Aspenwood is entirely dependant on the teams being random. If Kurzicks were able to enter with a team of eight they could easily load up on defense and easily out heal opposing teams with little loss. By comparison there is not as great an advantage for a Luxon team with organised team seeing as it would still rely on a mix off offensive builds which already happen. Six monks mixed between healing and protection along with two restoration ritualists would easily destroy any Luxon team even with several enchantment stripping skills as well as Well of Profane. This arena would become exclusive to faction farming guilds running cookie cutter team builds like the rest of PvP.
  • One of the highest appeals of Fort Aspenwood (and now JQ, but for not as long as it was only recently a viable arena) is the ability to easily and casually enter a game. Unlike other forms of PvP these arenas are the only non RA maps where you can quickly enter without any effort in forming a group and have a good game, with next to no prior planning involved. Removing the ability to enter without a team would destroy this aspect which many of its current players are most attracted to. Because everyone else entered under the same conditions it's pretty good odds you will have a far match, unlike if you grab the first three people in AB who will accept and then come up against a carefully constructed four man team which will wipe your grab and go team, this is not an issue in FA or JQ.
