(Discussion)

Alchemy yields nuances of roleplaying which permit the creation of interesting and beneficial (or detrimental) potions, ethers, etc. for various purposes (battling, traveling and whatnot). We didn't have an Inn/Resting system or an Alchemical one in Guild Wars, because we had health regeneration and fast-paced travelling/fighting (and the ability to MAP TRAVEL for free, and from anywhere, to a safe place), so there really wasn't any need for healing potions and whatnot (or Inns for that matter - but you don't see too many of those in MMO's).

However, potions replacing the consumables sets (but not being overpowered), would solve two problems: first, it would eliminate the over-buffing of the consets; and second, it would not eliminate buffing ENTIRELY.

Why this is a good idea
  • See above

(Adds interesting element to the game: solves the conset problem, potentially).

Why it may not work out
  • If you played Elder Scroll games, Might and Magic, Gothic III, etc. you'd know that sometimes it'd be a pain to go out and find X flowers and Y weeds to mash together in a mortar and pestle.
  • Might need to add ingredient traders and/or alchemist shops
