(Discussion)

When character lose all health he becomes dying but not dead yet.

Rules for dying
  •  dying character is knocked down
  •  all his skills are disabled
  •  all effects and attacks keeps affect him so his health may drop bellow zero
  •  unless he is healed in small time window (like 1-3 sec) to minimum health limit he dies
  •  minimum health limit to get from dying to normal state is more than zero (to reduce permanently geting to and off dying state when he is same time attacked by enemies and healed by friends)
Related rules
  •  there can be special skills accessible even when dying (like special self-heal)
  •  there can be special special hexes or condition or attacks which cause character die immediately after loosing all health (old behavior)
  •  special key for targeting dying party members can help healers to heal dying character in time

Why this is a good idea
  •  reduces spikes. It allows higher damaging skills in game in game without unbalancing combat, especially PvP (because healer have chance to heal dying character).
  •  possible special hexes or condition or attacks which kills immediately (skipping dying state) can make spikes still possible and can make nice new opportunity for distributing roles in combat between professions. They fits nicely in image of professions like assassin.

Why it may not work out
  •  some players may prefer to keep easy spikes in game
  •  complicate combat mechanics
  •  to allow health bellow zero complicate game interface (how to show negative health)
  •  attacker can waste high damaging skill/spell/attack on dying foe when his death is unavoidable because dying foe is kept targeted
