Gnome Delivery Service (Discussion)

Well, it doesn't have to be gnomes, but you get the idea right? I'm talking about a little delivery guy that can be hired to go and find another player, no matter where they are in the world, and run up to them and give them a package? You could even add such settings as they have to pay a certain amount of money (which would be brought back to you) to open the package (like C.O.D. in wow, only this is much cooler), and the package could be opened at any time after it was delivered, but you would have to pay to open it. Packages would be returned after a certain amount of time, if they weren't opened. As for the actual time of delivery, it should be based on the distance the player is away from the delivery service. If the player is offline, and the delivery time has been expended, the gnome would come running up to them as soon as they logged on again.

Why this is a good idea
  • No more changing districts to trade.
  • Christmas presents, Valentine's Day gifts, as well as random gifts from strangers. "Joe Blogs has been awarded the title of legendary guardian." -- then random nice strangers send him delivery gnomes.
  • Makes auctions trading a LOT easier (would save me hours a week, literally).
  •  How cool would it be to be standing out the wilderness somewhere and see a little gnome or something fly or run over to you and hand you a package?
  • Cool idea! 1 thing ^^ make it b possible only in towns/outposts ^^ and make it something... um... not gnome =P I think having a separate guy 4 each area will b cool, a Norn crow delivery service, an Asura delivery golem, stuff like that ^^ leave the thinking part 2 Anet ^^
Why it may not work out
  • Programming problems.
  • It might be annoying to be getting packages in the middle of combat (of course, the system could always be altered to wait for a time when the player hasn't aggroed anything, to deliver it to them).
  • Might be easy to abuse the system, by spamming someone with gnomes.
  • I don't think gnomes would fit very well with the GW story line.
  • If you're able to receive an item at any time, you could reach the last area of a dungeon, realize you're missing a specific item, and simply ask your friend to send it to you. Maybe you're running low on consumables, for instance. But shouldn't people be prepared in advance before they set out on a mission? Maybe it's better only to be able to receive items in outposts.
  • Might open up the possibility of an unlimited inventory size, which might be silly (if you can send gnomes from explorable areas).
