Broader name customization (Discussion)
In the extreme, it would be nice to allow more characters to be used in names, to allow characters of most any language. Numbers and underscores should also be possible, to enable greater diversity in names. One prob with underscores is that...You'd always get some so-and-so who would name their character "______________" which is annoying cause you dont know how many "_" they used, and would take ages to work out his name (i used 14 underscores btw). But we could just ignore them, or make sure they have to use at least SOME letters or numbers.
A slightly less overboard idea would be to simply scrap the requirement of a having last name. Accept single words as names, rather than forcing players to come up with a poor last name just to meet the more-than-one-word requirement. Or, allow a One word Minimum...and no maximum requirement so you could be called.. "Name" , "N A M E" or "Name Surname" as long as it fits in the character allowment...which i agree, needs to be increased from 19.
Yet another idea involves allowing players to rename their characters. To offset the possible abuse of this, make it possible to easily identify a particular account using a character's name. Or at least, provide a mechanism for a limited form of character renaming.
- Why this is a good idea
- Allows players to use names in their preferred languages.
- Makes it easier for players who created a character for one purpose, and then wanted to rename it to reflect flavor changes for their character.
- Single-word names is a norm in many other games and is not much different from two-word names, except being more flexible.
- Why it may not work out
- Will make it difficult for other players to type out names written in languages they don't recognize.
- Will make it possible for very weird and unrealistic names that combine symbols and numbers.
- More difficult to weed out offensive names or names that suggests offensiveness.
- More Characters named 548jfeh8092hd or something like that.
- Cause 'X Sexy Devil X' is way more than enough XD
