Better Maps (Discussion)
A lot of the maps right now are pretty straight forward and similar in that the only way you can use them skillfully is corners (Casters hide behind the corner, while the melee keeps their melee back). To make it more interesting, things like:
- Holes
- Arrows and Projectiles can still hit your team, but melee still has trouble reaching it.
- Gaps
- As in the enemies are on one side, and you have to aggro them to get to the other side, so only ranged things can hit them.
- Breaking Ground
- Causes players to be more aware of their surroundings to avoid being killed.
- Elevation
- Placing either enemies or Players on the high ground to make the situation harder or easier.
- Pressure activating "Pads"
- If the players stand on these pads, or just simple an area, a door opens, making enemies come out ect.
- Anything that requires the party to split.
- This type of map seperates the good teams from the bad.
This is seen slightly in EOTN, however I don't think it is shown enough.
- Why this is a good idea
- It makes the maps more interesting.
- It makes players have to think more, making the game much more than just killing the same mob, and instead it makes them face the same mob, in a different way.
- I dont think evrything is good but 'Anything that requires the party to split' is an good idea
- Why it may not work out
- Too much difficulty causes the players to be annoyed rather than just challenged.
- Instant deaths, while they teach players to be better, are annoying.
- Gaps are too easy for rangers. Touchpads exist a bit; I assume you mean them as traps. GW1 has traps already, just not insanely overpowered ones. Splitting teams... I remember a certain elite mission.
