Discussion

I think that in Guild Wars 2 it would be nice to see some weapons that look similar to those in other games. For example, I have recently bought Soul Calibur IV and saw a scythe wielding character that had a scythe very close in apperance to that of the recently added to Guild Wars, Dragon Scythe. I think that weapons like Soul Edge and Soul Calibur, along with many other swords that I have seen in several titles would go very well with Guild Wars characters. For example the Norn is a very tall class so I believe adding weapons from other games that are larger that naturally meet the size of the Norn instead of a normal small sword scaling up would look better with the class. There is a lot of possibilities using similar ideas from other games. Another example I could think of would be Cloud's sword from Final Fantasy. These are just a few of the swords that I can name, I am sure that there are many more out there.

Why this is a good idea
  • I believe this is a good idea, because many games these days appeal to a large scale of people. So if people saw that there was a weapon similar to one they have gotten in another game they enjoy, it will encourage them to seek out this weapon and play Guild Wars 2 more often.
  • Another good point is that it would add a certain level of anticipation for the player. I would assume that these new weapons would not be easily achieved. They would be placed at the end of a dungeon as a rare drop, or at the end of an elite mission. However, the reward for the player would make them love playing Guild Wars 2 all the more.
Why it may not work out
  • One reason why this may work out is that there may be issues with the companies that originally made the weapon. However, I am sure that the capable team at A-Net could work out some sort of agreement with the company to increase its publicity by putting its weapons in Guild Wars 2.
  • Another reason it may not work out is that some of the designs may be somewhat complicated to implicate into Guild Wars 2 even with the technology available. However, I am sure that this too could be solved by the A-Net team.
  • Straightly copying items from other games would be plagiarism; and even if the other creator allows it, many players will dislike that.
  • It endorses other games for some small suggestion to satisfy one person. It won't keep Guild Wars unique with its own great designs, instead relying on designs of other games. If a person wants to see those weapons so badly, they should go play the game it's from.
