Weapons Crafter (Discussion)

Unlocking weapons

A weapons crafter should gain experience from crafting weapons, and be able to craft rare weapons based on the weapons that are sold to them.

To unlock a weapon skin, the guild must customise 50 of the same skinned weapons to the trader. The weapons crafter will then say that they have mastered the technique (become specialised), and will give a fixed price and materials required to craft that weapon. To prevent people from purchasing from only the guild hall, the materials themselves could be rare, and the cost could be expensive too. These weapons become customised to the player that crafts them. Extremely rare skins will also be given the restriction that the crafter cannot mimic its design at all.

The weapons crafter will gain ranks for every number of weapons that the crafter specialises in.

Ranks could progress as follows: Stone|Iron|Metal|Steel|Diamond|

Tweaking and weapon proficiency

Tweaking is a form of weapon customisation that can be done by the crafter for a fee. Tweaking a weapon does not customise the weapon, but in order to get a max damage weapon, it must be customised. Like Guild Wars 1, customised weapons cannot be used by other people.

Weapon proficiency is a player’s experience with that type of weapon (sword, axe, hammer etc.) Weapon proficiency levels alongside the player, and when the player gains a level, they also become more proficient with the weapon held. When the player sees a weapon crafter they can ask to get their weapon tweaked to the level of their proficiency so their weapon is better suited to deal more damage in combat. There can be twenty levels of proficiency (20 being the highest). Players also have the freedom to go and master all weapons available.

Note: When players tweak a weapon, that weapon will say "this weapon has been tweaked for 'playername'". If the player sells their weapon and is equipped by someone else, the tweak will automatically be removed.

This idea proposes that weapon reqs should be abolished, and when the player finds a weapon, damage of the weapon will always be omitted. This is mainly because it should be up to the player’s proficiency to determine how much damage can be done, and not the weapon itself. This will eliminate max-weapon/high req trading and focus more on the skin and the weapon's construction.

The weapons crafter can gain ranks for every number of tweaks performed.

Ranks could progress as follows: Cutter|Bender|Fist|Hammer|Thunder

So a particular guild may be able to craft only two or three weapons, but have had many tweaks performed. Their weapons crafter would therefore be a Stone Fist weapons crafter.

Why this is a good idea
  •   Gives great influence to the weapons crafter, instead of being a 10k sinkhole
  •   Introduces guild-based titles for NPCs that all members of the guild can contribute to progressing
Why it may not work out
  •   Eradicating reqs and damage displayed on weapons is a big change
  •
