This is to suggest that our companions not be of the five races. To make things interesting, why don't we have what exactly the combanion is be determined by race? Asura would have golems, Charr would have siege beasts (like the siege devourer), Norn might have animals, Sylvari could have wierd animated plant creatures, and Humans might as well have subordinate humans. Now, I hate, I hate, I hate the idea of humans being the "well-rounded" race, but if Anet plans on doing that anyway, then they could also alow humans to choose what type of companion they want from the other four races' companion types.

This would all add to the idea of companions being an extension of your characters. It would also solve the one of the problems posed by Companions and Henchies in the Continuous World. All of the companions would be somewhat customizable in appearence and have thier own "profession" classes. For instance, human subordinates could come in assassin or medic varieties and Asuran golems would have hunter classes and support classes.

  • Might be overly complex
  • Difficult to balance
  • It might be simpler to make companions of the five races than to invent new things simply for the companion system
