Blessings and curses (Discussion)
I think it would be an interesting if there could be curses/conditions, or blessings, that persisted until the performance of a specified action, or which were temporary but lasted for a long time period (either a set time, or "this lasts for the next x monsters you kill").
Blessings and curses could persist even if you mapped to an outpost and left again. The idea is similar to the "dishonorable" status you can get if you leave too many PvP matches.
Curses might include: disease, lycanthropy/vampirism, a hideous transformation into a stick figure, an attribute penalty, a sensitivity to certain types of attacks or monsters, or unfavorable reactions/dialogue from NPCs. You might be cursed if you failed a quest. For instance, you tried to kill Glint, and she pwned you.
Blessings might include: a temporary PvE skill, temporary bonuses to attributes, or cosmetic changes (a full-body flowing aura). You might earn a blessing as a quest/dungeon reward.
- Why this is a good idea
- Adds interest, complexity, variety.
- The basic GW story is underdog vs world-destroying enemy. But would it be interesting, either as part of the main storyline, or as motivation in individual quests, to have a lifting-of-the-curse narrative?
- Why it may not work out
- Balance/exploit issues.
- Server space.
- There's a quest in Kaineng City that makes something like that, n trust me, it's not a good thing =P
