Guild Wars 2 Suggestions

=

Remember games like Oblivion and Morrowind, where classes had their own professional guild (league/society)? If you don't, it would be similar to say, the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants or CICA (the only difference is that CICA membership is mandatory for CA's to practice in Canada). I am suggesting that there could be professional associations or leagues for our character classes.

I think it would be spectacular for warriors, casters, etc. to have professional associations for the purposes of higher learning and, I dunno, encourage "enthusiasm" for your profession. Side-quests can be available, with rank title tracks, which could provide miscellaneous benefits for members. Perhaps something like a challenge solo quest would be required in order to obtain membership or advance through the ranks. Even adding unique quests based on a secondary profession might be cool (or just having limited membership in a chosen secondary profession's league). After all, this is GUILD WARS, and this is pretty much what guilds do. In fact, guilds in real life are precisely what I am suggesting: professional associations, and not so much fraternities/sororities or competitive clans like they are in this game.

Note however I am not proposing we replace our current system of guilds, merely add a new one. I suppose all this would entail are major NPCs stationed at respective headquarters for each profession's league, and a title track or tag added to your playable character. I know it would be too much for Anet to add areas to each major city (or even your own GH) corresponding to the leagues -- and it would be way too much for them to include an entire zone (outpost) corresponding to a league's HQ -- but maybe an instanced zone like the Hall of Monuments would suffice.

Why this is a good idea
  • Camaraderie between players of like profession
  • Bragging rights between players of like profession (and it would show other classes how good you are at your own)
  • The leagues could offer profession-specific challenges, and even basic training
  • Possibilities for unique items, titles, companion maybe, as rewards for members
  • Don't complicate it with too many over options, it's a good way 2 know new people that can help you, give you some good advises when you need em, n mayb give you good builds. Plus, the guild system is still necessary, 4 the same reasons it's necessary 2day.
Why it may not work out
  • Elitism will occur.
  • Logistic difficulties to overcome in implementation of the idea.
  • As there is no "real" incentive (yet), this would make the Guild system unnecessarily complex. Relatively.
