Ragnarok Online has homunculi, which are essentially battle pets with spells. One of the best things about them, however, is that their AI can be programmed by the player using LUA. I think it would be pretty cool if companions in GW2 could also have their AI reprogrammed by the player.

Why this is a good idea
  •  Programming is fun! :D
  •  Would be useful for soloing, tackling difficult monsters, or just getting through everyday grind. (Not that there's any grind in GW, ofc.)
  •  There will almost certainly be a sub-community of players who specialize in producing AI scripts and tutorials, so players who can't or won't program still have a means of customizing their companions' AI.
  •  Could introduce a whole new dimension to PvP.
Why it may not work out
  •  Balance issues.
  •  If allowed in PvP, MAJOR balance issues. This could be solved by forcing a temporary revert to default AI in PvP settings, however.
  •  May be used for botting.
  •  Badly programmed companions may be irritating to party members, or could cause problems for passers-by. (I'm thinking a dumb companion that tries to kill monsters that are already being attacked by someone else, or following players around because it thinks they're a monster.)
  •  That sub-community of players making AI scripts would also include everybodies friends- the scammers!
