I believe that the number of skills available in GW2 should be larger , or at least as large as the number of skills currently available on GW1. I also think that keeping skill just as complex as they are is another good ideea. Skill complexity is one of the defining elements of GW and having complex skills means that players have to be creative and think about the builds they're going to use, they also think about what skills work well together and what skills don't. Having complex skills is one of the high points of GW and i'd hate to see it go away in GW2.
- Why this is a good idea
- A high number of skills ensures variety and also means that players can adapt their charachters to their preffered method of fighting.
- Complex skills mean that players have to consider carefully what skills they'll use and also have to consider the way the skills work together.
- More skills and these being complex ones can only add variety to the game and improve gameplay since the same thing could be achieved in a more diverse number of ways.
- Why it may not work out
- Some players might prefer a simpler gameplay that is more action oriented .
- Ballance between different classes might be harder to achieve.
conditional effects based on levels of skill mastery, and/or enemy profession or weapon being held
another idea in regards to skills would be additional skill effects upon total basic mastery of an attribute:
for example, take the skill flare from gw1.
this skill does x amount of damage. if player has energy storage 9 or greater, this skill only costs 3 energy ( rather than 5). if player has 12 fire mastery or greater, target foe is also set on fire for 2 seconds.
you could also have things like "dynamic thrust. axe attack. you strike target foe twice in succession causing 15 damage with each attack. if target is wielding a melee weapon, this attack also causes bleeding. if target is wielding a wand or staff, this attack interrupt's target foe's action.
this creates a greater amount of flexibility than what we currently have in guild wars 1. 86.157.197.29 23:57, 4 November 2008 (UTC)
