No level (Discussion)
Rather than having the concept of character levels, Guild Wars 2 can adopt a point-but system for increasing your character's skills. Skills could still be based on attributes and/or grouped by profession, but rather than having them become more effective with attribute points, all skills possess a skill level.
The experience points gained then becomes a type of resource as per the current skill points in Guild Wars. Players can use a character's experience points to increase the level of a skill. Of course, skills would need to have a max level to properly balance it.
- Why this is a good idea
- It allows a skill-based development of one's character.
- May make things more flexible for the player by mix-and-matching skills from different skill trees or professions.
- Why it may not work out
- Probably an entirely new set of mechanics to develop and balance.
- Exploitation and balance issues with regards to the speed of experience gain.
- Whenever you get a new skill, you would need to grind to make the skill useful.
