Taunts / Detaunts (Discussion)
The concept of a "tank" class is very loosely used in Guild Wars. The only actual advantage a warrior has over other melees is his ability to take hits better than others. The extent of this was a very weak manipulation of monster aggro by having the warrior take the first few hits or just having the warrior able to stay in the enemy's backline for longer periods of time (pvp). This worked fine but it could have possibly worked better if the warriors were able to taunt their target. For example these taunts could force a PC to target the warrior for the certain amount of time (say 2-3 seconds), it could also do the same for monsters in PVE. Furthermore classes like rangers and assassins (more so assassins than rangers) could detaunt forcing a select PC to monster or clear their selected target for a short duration.
- Why this is a good idea
- Adds to the warriors role.
- Gives Assassins the ability to better fulfill their role as a melee
- Relays some of the "spike catching" responsiblity onto classes other than the healer.
- Why it may not work out
- Warriors could meatshield players by using only taunts and nothing else
- Adding abilities such as these to 'Tank' PvE mobs would further separate the play mechanics of PvE and PvP and promote segregation between the two groups.
