Visual Effects (Discussion)

It has been suggested that there should be better visual effects whenever you use a spell or if you are affected with a condition there should be certain effects that would happen to you. (ie. if your blind there is a black flash randomly)

Depending on the profession, different animations could be added to the players and the enviroment like a trail of zombie-like hands trying to grab at the feet of a necromancer, an aura of light surrounding a monk or a beam of light focused on monk from the sky that follows the monk, or every once in awhile a speech bubble of motivational words coming from a paragon and the ncps/playable characters around the paragon cheering. Ideas like these for old or new professions.

Why this is a good idea
  • Makes graphics better.
Why it may not work out
  • Slows down performance.
  • Annoying to player (?)

Environmental Effects/Interaction (Discussion)

As a way to make the game more immersive, have plants move when a player runs through them. Or if in an environment that is windy, have plants/trees more accordingly. Wind also could be used as an environmental effect which negates a players movement speed.

Why this is a good idea
  • makes environment more visually pleasing, and gives players more to appreciate when moving around in their surroundings
Why it may not work out
  • may be a bit too late to implement these things?
  • negative effects may get frustrating for players over time
  • Okay, this costs mega bucks to do even on console games, which can support effects such as Digital Molecular Matter and Havok. On an MMO, where you spend money on the game well past the selling date, it's just suicide, expecially if A-net wants to let people play their game on sub-standard computers.
