ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Each Race should have different Proffessions

From Guild Wars Wiki

your suggestion actually tightens variability rather than increasing it, since you're restricting certain races from playing certain professions. If you can present this idea in such a way that makes it so the race is physically incapable of performing that profession, then I'm all eyes. (Terra Xin 10:24, 19 June 2008 (UTC))

Would make sense in some was such as that I can't see a norn being a great assassin because they are bulky. If you make the other proffessions too much powerfull than there would be less variety because groups would only take a proffession if they are a specific race due to the bonus. ~ Nixon4prez

No. Fuck you. This is exactly what is going to make EotN suck, making the races different. You won't be able to use the race you want. The ONLY way I could see this being successfully implemented fairly -- and even then, I strongly disagree with it -- is if they make a bunch of all-new, completely unrelated professions for new races. i.e., the original ten professions are reserved for humans and monsters only, while there are forty new professions for the other freaks. But ANet is lazy as all hell, so that will never happen. Or if it does, each profession will only get eight skills or something and they'll all be basically the same. (Humans get Fireball, Charr get Flame Sphere. BIG DIFFERENCE) --Jette 08:39, 21 June 2008 (UTC)

I also agree with the above statement, except with the calling Anet lazy. I'm sure they work very hard at giving us the best game possible(yes I'm kissing ass, shut up). But seriously the idea of having different proffessions for each race is just stupid, for reasons that have already been stated. The concept of each race having special advantages in certain proffessions (which Anet already is planning on using if I understand them right) is also a bad one for the same reasons. We're going to have party messages that say "lfg norn warrior" or 'lfg asura spellcaster" etc. This is NOT how to make GW better. So who ever wrote this suggestion, you are now fired from the internet.--Will Greyhawk 17:03, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

I had a similar, but simpler idea. Instead of each race having 10 different professions, why not just tweak the names and starting skills? I made a post about that. It's called Profession Variants if you're interested. (I'm not trying to advertise, I'm just stating that I had a similar idea.)

Problem with that is, having a different name for every profession, and then having five playale races, with more probably beign added in the future, there would be too much confusion with what is actually what. Starting skills was a good idea, but that would cause some players to choose one profession over another. And I do agree with the other above statements, including with Anet being Lazy, but for different reasons. But there should be diversity among the different races, but too much diversity would raise Anet's devellopment costs way too high and well, we would start seeing a monthly payment. -Chrispy

Restricting some races to a profession might not be a good idea. although i do believe that each race should be more than just aesthetically different there are other ways to do this. maybe GW2 could have 1 race specific profession per race in adiition to the core ones. so say charr have the cores + 1 that is unique to charr norn have the core +1 that is unique to them and also race specific skills should be introduced I.e norn with bear form (already being implemented).--Thessassin 19:09, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I can see something

I do not like the idea of having every race have a completely different set of professions. However, I can see a set of "core" type professions that are for every race, and then each race gets a race specific profession. Honestly people, Sylvari are intuned with plants, and Charr are with fire/war; I don't think I could see a charr that manipulate plants. Maybe for Sylvari, a profession that can manipulate plants (make them instantly grow and then die at will); Charr could have something that has to do with rage and anger (maybe a combo of fire and shouts/chants or something)... my Charr one is prob. a bad idea, but I hope you get my point :) --ShadowphoenixPlease, talk to me; I'm so lonely ;-; 21:33, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

What?

People won't be as choosy? Umm, yes they fucking will.

Your suggestion started bad and got worse when I tried to read whatever fragments of the English Language were in the first paragraph. Different races don't need different professions. This isn't WoW. If a charr wants to hit things, and a human wants to hit things, why can't they?

The closest you will get is race-specific skills. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 04:12, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
