ArenaNet talk:Guild Wars 2 suggestions/Summoner

The Bundle

You've got a great premise for a great idea, but there's a little bit too much in the profession. It should be a tad more like the Necromancer's minion skills mixed with the Asura skills a little. For an example, as opposed to summoning virutally anything, you could summon wimpy enemies for each possible profession in the game. Let's say they use the GW1 professions and skills for an example, to summon your idea for something that distracts them, you could have a creature half your level pop up and use mesmer skills. As for the pollen thing, you could summon a flower that uses Dust Trap, maybe? As for the thing that pops out of the ground and keeps them from moving, you could summon half a corpse out of the ground that grabs onto their ankle. Just making suggestions, though.

I am in favor of this idea, if only for the fact that there was no 'true' summoner in GW1. Yes, there was MM, but it was difficult and costly to keep your minions alive and very hard to amount to anything in PvP. And yes, there was Ritualist, but only a few of their spirits actually attacked, were too easy to kill, and never moved. Not to mention there was no variety, all your spirits basically being blue floating people. A true summoner would have to be a joy to play, summoning a diverse cast of creatures based on your build and watching them mob the opponent, while you sit in the back commanding them and healing them as necessary. Oh, and you'd also have your head back and be laughing manically. Bwahahaha!

To be honest, i think the type of character would be hard to implement and may be not so good in a game like this, but if done well i reckon it would be a great character to use. Theres several things that i think you would have to take into consideration with this type of class. Only this class reminds me of henchies but ones that are summonable lol.

- What will the player actually do (as mentioned before) other than spam summons.

- How would u regulate the power of a summoner. (summoning points?? sound a bit like ROSE to me and i wasn keen on that style)

- Attributes - what will they be?

Some other suggestions i can think of for this class are:

- One summon at a time that the player can fight with side by side. Another reason for just one summon = less characters in screen (help avoid lag maybe)

- Summon acquisition can be achieved at certain points within the game

1. 'Skill point' allocation for different summons to determine the strength of the summon.

2. This skill point then allows u to increase specific stats such as, strength (health, att pwr, defense), magic power (mag def & mag pwr), speed (movement, evade, att rate)(3? 'stat' points per 'skill' point).

3. To earn a skill point ur summon must fulfill certain requirements (eg. defeat X amount of enemies)

i love this idea, freakin summoning mino to kill for me (gen winter) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Gen Winter (talk).

I personally like the idea of a summoner profession. Although the Asura is believed to summon using polymocks or something similar, I would prefer a devoted a profession. Maybe like an elementalist, you were given attributed summons, like earth, water, air and fire. Not only this, but you could have spells to buff your summon e.g. make it last longer, increase it's strength, command it to use an ultimate spell before dying?

I would like to see animation to be taken advantage of here.. like in Asura's summons.. I don't want a tiny shimmer on the ground and a summon the size of a Norn pop up. This might be ok for normal summmons... but i'm talking about if there were 'elite' summons then they would have to be pretty spectacular. I'm talking arcane circles on the floor, slight trembling of the ground? (earth summon?) or a portal open up and a large (not so large it takes up most of the screen) climb out. Obviously this kind of animation would slow some players' computers, but granted these would be 'elite' summons and would have a very long recharge rate, so they couldnt be spammed... only used like once every 10minutes...

Maybe an idea would also be once an Asuran summons something, it could climb into it or merge with it and take on it's skills much like we've seen in GW with the giant wurms and devourers in the Charr homelands.

ehh...ritualist. that is the idea itself is too much like the rit, however the way you wrote the page seems way better than the current ritualist, so they should change it to this, but they should not keep this and ritualist in the same game.--Animus 07:34, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
