Glyph+Steam Combo

moved from ArenaNet talk:Skill feedback/Elementalist/ArenaNet:Skill feedback/Elementalist/Steam

cause having to use 2 skills to get blind is overpowered and it takes two 1s casts to get it.--75.94.77.148 17:44, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

First, those two skill only need you to spend in water attribute, don't need any elite and allow to separate the 2x1s cast by up to 14s. I invite you to check skills that cause blindness and you will see that's one of the cheapest and easiest constant blind.
Second, as I said half of the problem is the synergy with the water skills allowing powerful snares, same combo falling under earth or air magic wouldn't be overpowered imho. Neck 12:04, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
No one uses this in serious PvP simply because it takes so damn long to pull off. Even if it weren't a matter of interrupts, diversion, etc, you don't want to blind the warrior in 2.75 seconds; he's in your face critting with Eviscerate RIGHT MOTHERFUCKING NOW. You have about a second before he gets off Executioner's, which in many cases means you have about a second to stop yourself from dying. Do bear in mind that you need to figure in reaction time as well (as it's not obvious that he's spiking you until he's actually doing so, in many cases; also, if you're balling up - whether due to map restraints or other causes - it can be hard to tell who he's going to hit, which means good luck with preprots.) -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 22:30, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
People do use this in serious pvp. What game are you playing?
It was a bad idea to make a skill that says "this is useless unless you run some gimmick."
Giving water magic a blind with no other requirements was another stupid idea. ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 22:48, 12 September 2008 (UTC)

Not sure how to take your comment. Is it about the suggestion part or about the current skill ?
If its about suggestions, let me say they're all separate way to deal with it, applying them all together would just be meaningless. This said I think they're interesting way to modify this skill without killing it.
If its about the current skill, let me show you a screenshot taken right now in spec mode:
Steam glyph use.jpg
Both M/E are using the steam+glyph combo, making them blind+snarebot. Neck 22:56, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
Armond, you don't actually play this game, do you? You were pretty much guaranteed to have 2 copies of steam in any given gvg match (until water mesmer got nerfed). Glyph of immolation has a short recharge and low cost, and it affects the next 3 skills. You don't even have to use glyph followed by steam. You use glyph on recharge and do your normal shit, and pretty much only have to use it when necessary. Even with water mesmers not really being around any more, it's still pretty damn good on a normal water ele, and I doubt you'll see one without it. Pluto 02:56, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
Just because "all" water elementalists bring Steam doesn't mean it needs a nerf (otherwise Word of Healing would have been murdered in its sleep months ago). Oh noes, 2 people in a gvg brought Steam...how many people brought Eviscerate or Executioner's Strike or Diversion? I'll give you that Steam has advantages to Blinding Flash...but it is in a spell line that really does nothing else besides a bunch of nearly identical damage/snare spells. If you are going to choose between using 8 hex-snares or 7 hex-snares and a blind, which are you going to choose? Air on the other hand, has several spike spells and damage. If either line is going to have better blind, I'd prefer it to be on the low damage spell line instead of leaving us with an air god dealing lightning death while simultaneous unhittable by blinded enemies. - Elder Angelus 15:14, 10 November 2008 (UTC)

Deletion

moved from ArenaNet talk:Skill feedback/Elementalist/ArenaNet:Skill feedback/Elementalist/Steam

Sorry didn't see the other page, it doesn't appear in the Elementalist skill list.

However you should tag that other one for deletion since the issue there has been solved in a Game update already. Neck 15:57, 13 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Gordon for merging ! Neck 15:40, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
