Feedback talk:User/Gordon Ecker/Auctions as a dynamic gold sink
Unfortunately[edit]
Linsey has already addressed this issue here "An auction house is pretty much out of the question. The expertise required to develop that technology is far more than the Live Team can handle. Even if we seriously beefed up the Live Team, we could not handle a project like an Auction House since it would require a huge amount of time from our very TOP programmers to develop and that just isn't something we can afford to do. I'm not sure what constitutes as a "Marketplace" but anything that would involve the automating of trade transactions would require "a huge amount of time from our very TOP programmers" and isn't likely to happen.". -- Wyn talk 07:48, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I remembered an official post about auctions being extremely unlikely, and I don't think this is likely to happen in GW1, but I'm still hoping that something changes the situation, and I can't think of any more practical ways to deal with mudflation. This was intended to be a suggestion for both games, but there doesn't seem to be an option to dual-categorize it. I'd prefer not to make a nearly identical GW2 copy. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 10:48, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- They should hire shard for a week, that'd give him enough time to familiarize himself with the code, write the entire AH script, and do several days of bug testing :D -Auron 11:08, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- I won't comment on how difficult it is, because I don't actually know, but I think part of Gordon's point in making this is that he wants it recorded that it is still wanted. I am pretty sure they still know and it may just happen that one day someone thinks of a way of doing it or that something changes to make it possible. Misery 12:01, 16 November 2009 (UTC)
- Actually, my main point was that it's important for the in-game economy. I've seen a lot of posts complaining about how something has ruined the economy, and a lot of suggestions about how an auction system would be great because it makes trading easier for players, but I don't recall any post suggesting an auction house as a long-term solution to the economic problems. -- Gordon Ecker (talk) 11:28, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

The game already has plenty of gold sinks. While inflation is indeed a problem, it's mostly for vanity items. In general, I find that the inflation has *helped* most players. Since inflation picked up, I can actually AFFORD to buy full skill lists now, for example. Before then, I had to pick and choose any skills I bought very carefully and could not experiment with builds (a very necessary part of the game.) Not that I'm against better trade, auction (which is a stated "never") or not -- I'm against there being yet more gold sinks. Emkyooess 18:27, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
- Just wanna say that (regarding the first comment) even Runescape *Que little girl scream* has 'the grand exchange' were people sell stuff to other people for a set price(higher/lower).i realise tecnoligy between the two games is giant.but it would much improve the game(Eg. Less 'wts' spam. Spamadan would finaly be quiet and people could 'price check' items), overall... It will never happen.--Neil2250 . 00:22, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
