Feedback talk:User/Shard/Let me revive pvp
Despite the way this is brought to attention (yet again), I actually agree GW was the best online PvP game in quite some time (if not ever, period). I remember how fondly the team spoke of the fact that GW was built from the ground up to be a PvP/eSports game, and then let money get in the way towards realisation. How the tournaments were not just hyped because of the size of the community, but because of how competitive the PvP actually was. I'm not saying any one person in particular should be assigned to any PvP revival projects, but I do wholeheartedly agree that Guild Wars's core concept is far from dead or undesirable.
Sure, ArenaNet wanted to make Guild Wars 2, everyone can understand that. And if you had dropped the PvE content updates for GW to focus on it, that would've been more than fine. But letting PvP die instead was exactly why GW is pretty much empty now. It's riddled with PvE grinders who "just want to get some HoM points for GW2 lol" while both veteran PvP or PvE players are left with absolutely nothing of value. GW will always be superior to GW2, and I absolutely detest it when people claim otherwise. It's like subjecting your grandparents to euthanasia because you want some easy cash from their will.
You built a rough diamond, only to trade it in for a shiny pebble. The team worked hard on GW for a long time, and yes, of course I respect that you took a leap of faith and built GW2. But it's time to face the fact that GW2 is a PvE-oriented game. It was never properly designed around PvP. GW2 PvP will never be an eSport. Let that ship sail and focus on your actual shot at being an eSport. This game. Guild Wars (not Guild Wars 1, Guild Wars) is where you should be working hard. GW2 will sell anyway, people love beautiful grind-based games (lol AION, TERA, RIFT). You can/should reduce the GW2 team and reassign staff members to the GW team, or hire people to do it for you. Keep PvE automated, return PvP to its former glory and improve it.
After all, why not bet on the horse most likely to win. - Infinite - talk 11:25, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
- As someone who's seen several of Shard's projects, and watched GW slowly burn into a game with less than 100 active players, I can say with 100% confidence that Shard is a better designer than anyone currently at Anet. They should jump at this chance. Tha Reckoning 09:22, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
- Sounds like a good idea. It would crowd the game a bit more, so seeing the same people every day will be less of an issue. Koda 23:45, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

You see, it should be the creator's interest to properly maintain the game. If they do, it's fine, if not, the activity drops. Something can not remain attractive for ages only because it used to be fun in the past (that is, 6 years ago). Indeed some PvP-minded fellows can wait for quite a long time, though, it all ends upon seeing no confirmation that beneficial link between them and the Content Team is still possible.
You're not alone in your feelings towards this game, therefore, I assure you that presented proposal is not the only feedback dispatched to the desks at ArenaNet. On the other hand, there are much better, real things to be excited about and if no one's willing to open the door, a Headbutt strategy will hardly aid the task of being heard. - This is completely false.
- Once upon a time, there was a game called Brood War. The most recent balance patch for it was released on May 20th, 2001. Up until 2010 (when SC2 was released), it was still being played heavily and was the top sport in Korea, narrowly beating out CSS. Blizzard didn't patch it for nine years and people were still playing it up to the release of SC2. It was so well-balanced that the metagame changed multiple times because the community kept figuring out little tricks and nuances that made older strategies less useful.
- I can't stand when people say you need to maintain a game to keep it interesting. Doing so is to ignore everything that's right in front of your face. If games needed updating to stay popular, why do people still play Chess?
- This should be a no-brainer for Anet. I'd be doing the jobs of about 5 people for the price of 1, and they know the GW community misses pvp, it's a common topic on the GW2 forums (yes, people playing GW2 hate its PvP so much that they want old PvP back).
- "We make games we like to play." - Man oh man do I wish that statement were actually true. ~Shard 13:22, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
