Just a couple[edit]

No on the /seppuku, they're not supposed to be glorifying self-harm (although they never did ban that character name I reported...). (too lazy to find link on Gaile's archive). For the /gz, instead of last drop (because if you're taking down a mob, you might have multiple drops), allow us to use /gz [Player Name]. /help is cool, but I have no idea what you're referring to with the /dude emote, must be some pop culture reference I'm not aware of. That's all for now. :) -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 16:24, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the notes! I'm making changes accordingly. Regarding the specific comments:
  • /gz — since we can already type gz, I'm thinking of something with some additional utility. However, you make a good point about multiple drops. Any thoughts on how to take advantage of the quickness of the emote vs. the slowness of typing out everything during heat of combat?
  • /dudeThe Big Lebowski is a cult favorite with a couple of oft-repeated (and/or over-repeated) catch phrases, including, "The Dude abides", and a number of other comments in which Jeff Bridges' character, The Dude, refers to himself in the third person. It's probably not funny enough unless the dev team managers are all in their 40s and big fans.
  • /seppuku — personally, I don't see this as glorification of self-harm, especially in a game that actually offers a title for those whose characters kill themselves repeated and almost requires suicidal toons to unlock pet levels in the menagerie. That said, it's not my opinion that matters. Because I generally disapprove with self-censorship, I prefer to let ANet rule rather than remove the entry. By the time you read this, I'll have morphed the text to (I hope) as less glorified statement. Depending on the comments of others (or any response you might make), I might end up placing it in its own article, so that its potential for controversy is quarantined.
In any case, your comments are always welcome (and helpful!). Thanks again for taking the time.   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:26, 8 October 2009 (UTC)
You forgot /cry - character rubs eyes with both fists (or something). User Rose Of Kali SIG.jpgRose Of Kali 22:54, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
You are soooo right! That should include the synonym /QQ, of course.   — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 06:03, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

A F K annoys you[edit]

for which I profusely apologize.

  • /afk - maybe reword to clarify that you realize it's an existing emote and you merely wish to add the extra function
  • /online and probably /here - tbh I feel /back would be used most of the time by most people, they'd be impracticle code-wise (too much time spent on little to no gain)
  • /sleep - same as above
  • ignore - you forgot the /. I'd also note that I've a full Friends List, a full Ignore List, and I'm equally proud of both! ;) Seriously, though, whenever I add someone to my Ignore it means removing someone. So, personally, I wouldn't benefit from that change. I'm not sure if others would. To be fair, I havn't added anyone in weeks or maybe months, but... I still have the full list and it's a trend I've noticed. :P
  • /me - nicely done, I see what you did with the link. I'm up for this idea.
  • /emote - I consider that impractical. On other news it should really be plural, imo
  • /help topic - I've absolutely no idea what I'm talking about here; don't go thinking I'm educated in such a field. But I would imagine that'd take a supreme amount of coding.
  • /seppuku - I like the way you phrased that
  • /map - Uhhh... four characters instead of just hitting the M button? Me no understandie.
  • /gz - /congrats is fine imo.
  • I dislike how this is so drop orientated and can't be used whenever, e.g., for something mentioned in a conversation. I think /drop or similar would be better suited for this focused idea, although I consider that to be impractical.
  • /fist - For the first two months I played GW it took me ~25 minutes to figure out how to shake my fist whenever I tried to do so. I consider this highly intuitive. tl;dr: needs to be implemented
  • /banjo, /kazoo & /sheepish - More examples of things which I feel aren't worth the amount of time that coding takes. /banjo would be rarely used (I imagine) as would /sheepish. I've never heard of a "kazoo" so can only imagine that's too little known to be worth adding.
  • /omg - I'll be short and to the point. Please no.
  • /gag - see /omg
  • /Cry - I'm not personally a fan of it but I think I could live with it.
  • /QQ - Wut?
  • /wtx - "resends the message every 3 minutes or until player... sends a message in the trade channel..." I don't like this idea, but I'm too impressed by the insightfulness displayed to fail to say well done. So, well done. Wow! Thanks for the extra feedback!
First, I'm going to add your new emotes to the list (unless you want to setup your own Feedback? let me know and I'll swap 'em out). Then, I'm going to implement most of your corrections/suggestions on the original list; the ones I agree with are awesome.
I will take time to quibble with some of your objections: /banjo and /kazoo are well known in the US as instruments of silliness. /help topic won't take any more coding than F10 does (they have the mechanism, they just have to parse and send to default browser). Similarly, /back (great idea) and /online implement features that already exist (new coding should be relatively light).
Finally, I have great respect for /afk; it's just an emote that is, you should pardon the expression, insufficiently-here-when-needed. Similarly, I have great respect for the GuildWikian nicknamed AFK, for they are often @wiki when needed.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:00, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

/Banjo[edit]

When I saw /banjo in the list, the first thing I thought of was that scene in Deliverance. Cynique 08:57, 14 February 2011 (UTC)

Is this what you were thinking of? ;-)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 11:05, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
I was thinking of the version in the movie Deliverance, which is a bit more sinister than the Muppets. (Well, I followed the link, and it said "Muppets" at the top, so I presume it was the Muppets. I can't watch youtube videos here because my system does not support the Flash player. Bah.) Cynique 12:47, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
Ach, soz. Yeah, it's the same tune, but Steve Martin vs the Muppets (so, replace silly with sinister and you get the picture). Martin has a long-standing, running gag in his stand-up that relates to the impossibility of playing anything sad on the banjo.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 12:55, 14 February 2011 (UTC)
