Hilarious[edit]
"a Knight, clearly armored in Plate Mail, will wield a wand and focus, but use Ranger skills, and drop ritualist tomes" besides the initial "wtf is a 'Knight'?" thought, this would be rather complicated to do. In order to drop ritualist tomes, it must be a ritualist primary, therefore cannot be a warrior (I assume that is what you mean by "knight"), however it may be able to have a warrior frame/model/armor - not sure if that's possible, tbh, but may be since at least frames are possible to be interchangeable.
In regards to the purpose of giving a nod to the wiki community as a whole, I recently had a similar idea, though not nearly as humorous as yours. "Wiki" is pretty darn close to a female asura's name, so the thought I had was an asura researcher named Wikki with a large krewe documenting the world and its creatures/events. Too obvious though, isn't it? :P Konig/talk 04:15, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Mebbe, Ikiw instead? (following the tradition) I like your idea, too (and it's a whole lot easier to implement). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:53, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- Heh, the full idea would be Wikki as an NPC which would be useable to offer that highly desired (by wiki'ers such as myself and Mith) scanning skill/item/mechanic with randomly placed scholar-isk NPCs throughout. Some lore behind the NPC could be that she's working with our most famous scholar. Could even show the beginnings of Durmand Priory (both location and order - the latter once being implied to currently exist), but no quests revolved around it effectively. - That would be very cool. I wonder if Ikiw/Wikki would also be a traveler (found in different locations each week and only answering questions about the local flora and fauna). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 07:56, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- That was also an idea I had for certain durmand priory scholars, though without the "each week" as that'd be tedious; unless it were per week in outposts. Also Ikiw wouldn't work as an asura name, I dare say. While male names do end in consonants and Ikiw is two syllables, it lacks the very common (but not absolute) double lettering and the quick flow of most asura names (Vekk, Mamp, Renk, Gadd, etc. are all very quick pronouncing words due to having one syllable). - Mono-syllabic names like: Anatomical Engineer Llye, Akom, Florggi? Easy to pronounce names like Ybbob, Yulma, Jwup, Qogg? If double-lettering is required, there's Ikkiw or perhaps even Gwikki (which would be a more appropriate honor for GWW's ancestor wiki). As human beings, we can spot patterns in nearly anything, but I doubt very much if the GW1 teams ever had a style guide for Asuran names; they just made 'em up as they needed based on a few vague rules. (Like a lot of things in this game, naming conventions aren't nearly as consistent as they would be if ANet could afford a continuity expert, such as those used for successful TV shows.)
- However, I'll grant you that (a) Wikki looks more Asuran to me, too and (b) it's more mellifluous, too. (I was just hoping for something not quite as obvious.) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 08:29, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- The GW1 team probably didn't at first, but there's a pretty easy to note similarities and then we got devs stating the exactness of the naming with using GW1 examples. Whether this means that the naming system was derived off of GW1 asura names or it was made while asura were being designed is up to debate until a dev tells us the situation. However, all things considered and being someone who thinks up of scenarios and stories, sometimes little things are derived before the big things. But that's all moot, really. - "Moot" would be an appropriate name for the reference librarian (perhaps, spelled as Muut or something). (It seems to me that GW1 names don't closely follow the patterns stated by Jeff and Ree, but I'm glad that they are attempting to impose one as they put the finishing touches on GW2.) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:11, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

- Which is why there are no NPCs named after Gordon Ecker, Wynthyst, ... ;-) — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 15:59, 25 July 2011 (UTC)
- I always thought they named their usernames after the NPCs. =) --Axis 04:00, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
