Why is it the only elected members of the staff are called bureaucrats? –Jette 00:16, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Because every bureaucrat was a sysop before becoming a Bcrat, and they have more powers (and more responsabilities) than sysops --Kyx 00:25, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- In no way does that pertain to or answer my question. –Jette 01:22, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Then, i am sorry, it seems that i didn't understand your question, could you please be more specific? --Kyx 01:48, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Bureaucrats are by definition not elected, they're appointed or hired. –Jette 01:49, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- Well, in this case it's just a way to call things. Since Bureaucrats manage things, it's only natural that here they are callad in the same way, since they, along with sysops, manage the wiki. Even on wikipedia administrators are called Bureaucrats even if they are elected and not appointed. The reason because they are callad Bcrats instead of administrators (i think) it's because the people who created the MediaWiki software decided to call them in this way. I hope that this time i've understand your question. --Kyx 11:43, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- You understood, but the usual "people are morons" answer would have sufficed. –Jette 15:56, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- An alternative: Because electived sounds dull, and senator too official. Konig/talk 21:26, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- As Kyx said, "bureaucrat" is what MediaWiki calls that usergroup. We're the ones who decided that these bureaucrats should be voted for. By the way, non-sysops can become bureaucrats as well; case in point: me, I'm not a sysop. Also, sysops are elected too, but their election doesn't involve straight-out voting. pling 23:34, 18 February 2012 (UTC)
- I would rather call that 'accepted' than 'elected'. Elections imply a democratic way of determining the most suitable people. Koda 17:44, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
