Important question. What's your stance on muffins and cookies? And other general sweet biscuit-cake type things. -- Brains12 \ Talk 00:20, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I promised Auron I'd come to his 12th birthday party based purely on the fact he would have muffins, so muffins are gladly accepted. As are cookies, cakes, crackers, rusks, biscuits, and any other biscuit-kinda things. — Galil 00:23, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- So, i take it as a non-preference for muffins over other options? Wouldn't that be detrimental for the wiki community?--Fighterdoken 00:47, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Please note I added muffins first to the list, and a unique way of presenting my opinions on muffins. As such, how do you assume I prefer the other variants over muffins? — Galil 00:49, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, you must understand the pro-muffin faction is really cautious about this, so a clear stance is required for this.--Fighterdoken 00:50, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- So to clear up future misunderstandings: Muffins > cake > cookies/biscuits > crackers > rusks. — Galil 00:52, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

- I find your pastry promiscuity highly offensive, and believe it is not the sort of thing we want in our admins. - Tanetris 01:09, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I would reconsider my opinion on the various types of pastry, but it will require some thought. Return in 7.5 million years and I shall have the answer. (Trivia anyone?) — Galil 01:12, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- The answer is 42! -- Salome 01:15, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, but to have any use of the answer you've got to have the question. To compute this question, you need a computer so complicated you yourselves will take primitive forms and become part of its matrix. I shall construct this computer, and name it... (Yes, I know.. It's a complete give-away) — Galil 01:20, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry Galil, but helping me with some template stuff does not get a free vote from me.- Vanguard 00:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Nor would I want it to. I'm not offended by an opposing vote, if that's what you truly believe I should get. :) Sadly we don't seem to share the opinion that time spent on something doesn't necessarily increase the capability to handle it, but you are entitled to your opinion, and sharing it of course. — Galil 00:59, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
A Couple of Questions[edit]
- Why do you want to be an Admin?
- What do you think you could accomplish as an Admin that you couldn't accomplish without the Admin tools?
- What do you think distinguishes you from equally active, etc., users so much so that you deserve to be promoted?
- Corollary of the above: What do you have to offer the community and/or the Admin team?
I may have some more questions later, but those are enough for now. *Defiant Elements* +talk 01:27, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think that in the short time Galil has been here he has shown exelece in the wiki community. I also think that Galil would make an exelent admin. I don't see why you would see any diffrent, but then again everyone is entitled to an opinion. --Shadowphoenix 01:51, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Erm... where'd you get the idea that I necessarily thought otherwise? I'm neutral at the moment, and I asked these question in order to get a better sense of Galil's motivations. *Defiant Elements* +talk 01:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oh no.....I understand you are neutral, it was kind of retiorcal. In other words if you were to oppose I wouldnt see why you would. Get it now lol XD --Shadowphoenix 01:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- errr...Phoenix i think maybe you should let Galil answer any questions like that first and then maybe add your own comments afterwards, as at the moment you answering for Galil is kinda confusing the issue and muddying the water somewhat. -- Salome 02:16, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

- (Edit conflict) Those are some very good questions and I'm glad you asked them. I added a fifth one, namely how I - as an admin - would act on cases, simply cause I extracted it from my reply to the first question as it didn't quite fit the question. :)
- I would like to be an admin cause of my helpful, janitorial and what you could possibly call a somewhat pedantic nature. I almost daily mark pages for deletion, most of which would end up being deleted immediately and consider it an unnecessary step in the system in some cases. I also am a very active user on this wiki and would like to be of as much use as possible while I'm browsing it.
- Seeing as my interest lies in the parts working behind the wiki, there are things I would like to be able to edit that I currently do not have the permissions to. As an example, me and poke were working on the new controls on the upload form, and Tanetris reported a bug while poke wasn't online. This happened just a couple of hours ago. I fixed said bug, but had no rights to actually commit the changes and had to ask Anja do it. There might be other times similar things pop up when no admins are available.
- As I've already said, I'm not a good self-promoter, but I would have to say my general grasp of technicalities, my ability to adapt to new situations and to look at things objectively. Also my ability to read a text (such as a policy) as a whole rather than down to the letter. I believe people refer to it as the "spirit of a policy" rather than literal interpretation. I also dare say I have a good sense of what is right and what is wrong, and what others might find offensive. As a "bonus", I very rarely get upset and when I do I never let it go out on someone else or on my responsibilities.
- I think I can offer the community a lot in terms of helpfulness, understanding as well as friendly responses. I have a good sense of imagining how people will react to things, what might work and what might not, what to completely avoid, etc. I can't claim I could offer the admin team anything they don't already have though, other than my thoughts and opinions on matters brought up. We already have competent admins and I wouldn't claim to be superior to them in any way.
- I prefer order and people being friendly towards each other over repetitive NPA-breaches, "general asshattery" and trolling. That said, I'm not meaning to imply that I would act upon all of those as equals, but I would rather take each of the cases as they appear and treat them individually.

- Galil, even though it's semi-late, putting in your two cents at Backsword's GW2W Culture Poll would be good to furter understand your motivations, if you haven't already. Calor 02:43, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Done. Though I'll re-read them tomorrow. It's 4.45 am. :P — Galil 03:47, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I had hoped the answer to those would have changed my mind, but it in fact furthered my opposition. Especially on #5. Asshattery and trolling have multiple interpretations. Someone being brutally honest might be seen as a bannable offender to a Sysop. Just because someone is rude to you or someone else doesn't mean they need to be banned immediately. If every place was like that, America would be half it's size and there'd be no internet forums in existance. Resistance, Opposition leads to discussion and that leads to critical thinking. Eh, not sure If that's clear but I'm just typing as I think.- Vanguard 17:45, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Backsword's culture poll actually had an entire question for trolling, where I stated my view on it and how it should be handled. I fail to see what made you think I would immediately ban someone for trolling or being rude though, as I said I "would rather take each of the cases as they appear and treat them individually". — Galil 17:53, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- A knee-jerk ban might not be your thing, I just may disagree with the individual handling. That's All I'm sayin'.- Vanguard 17:58, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

- Then perhaps you'd prefer no sysops at all, as all sysops must exercise this level of discretion at some level. —Tanaric 05:07, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm getting the impression that you misunderstood something, but I apologize in advance if I was the one who misunderstood. I think what Galil meant by "individual handling" is that he would look at each problematic case in its own context, rather than attempting to apply a set of global rules and criteria to decide when a ban is warranted. I don't believe that he was saying he would apply his own individual rules. -- ab.er.rant 05:59, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry if I made that unclear somehow, but yes. That was what I meant. — Galil 10:19, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Week[edit]
It's March 13th UTC now. 8 days in. Any bureaucrat care to close the RfA and make the decision? Calor 01:05, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- LOL, someone was reading the offtopicy chat weve been having on admin noticeboard. lol But yeh please close as anticipation is killing me. :) *crosses fingers for Galil* -- Salome 01:07, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, it's been 7 days and little more than one hour, since I posted it late. ;) — Galil 01:08, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Galil realy deserves this :o). *also crosses fingers* *gives waffles to the bureaucrats to bribe them* --Shadowphoenix 01:10, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- I would say "try muffins", but I realized Biro isn't bureaucrat anymore. :/ — Galil 01:12, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Accepted... but with hesitation. Your margin of support was quite slim, Galil. Were the 3:1 requirement not coded in policy, I personally would not have accepted this RfA. Consider easing into the role gradually over the next month or two, deferring to other sysops in contentious cases -- Backsword's opposition was based on his claim of your inexperience, so slowly adopting the role you've been appointed to should help allay those sorts of concerns.
Welcome aboard, friend. :)
—Tanaric 07:43, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the welcome. I was actually planning on working my way into the role, same as one has to work his/her way into pretty much any role. I can't disagree with having lack of experience with sysop cases (though I do have experience with the admin tools), but that's mostly due to the fact I haven't been sysop before, not that I haven't seen sysops at work. Someone who's just gotten hired at a store for the first time won't have experience as a cashier either, even though he/she's seen one work all his/her life. — Galil 19:01, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
- Aye, congrats. The wiki ran perfectly fine before you were here, and, while I don't doubt you'll improve things, there's no need to rush into things. Follow Tanaric's advice and things'll be fine two months down the road. Calor
