Text linking to Images[edit]

I'd like to make caption text on Champagne Popper link to an image using "[[Image:Champagne_Popper_animation_%28Frog%29.gif|here]]" but instead of just making a link it displays the image. This could be solved using redirects or full links - but i'd rather not. Any ideas? --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 12:11, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Added to the list - add a colon before "Image". --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ talk 12:54, 5 January 2009 (UTC)
Just fixed it - thank you! --User Karasu sig.png Karasu (talk) 12:55, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Meta vs Media?[edit]

Hey, I noticed we have a bunch of help links to help at Metawiki. I went there and was redirected for something to a page at Mediawiki, which looks like it might a better / alternative source of wiki documentation? Any thoughts? --Star Weaver 19:51, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

All the MediaWiki help stuff used to be on MetaWiki when our help files were first created. Correcting our links to the current MediaWiki links would be fine, just really time consuming since they all have to be verified. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:23, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually, you will see that WikiMedia where those links go to is WikiMedia - Meta Wiki. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 20:29, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Interwiki links... should these be here?[edit]

I don't see these documented in HELP. Where would be a good place to put them so the casual contributor can find 'em?  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:35, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Syntax for commenting sections out and quoting on this wiki?[edit]

So, recently I thought it was better to comment something out (rather than deleting it) on another article, but I realized I forgot the syntax to do it, so I thought "well it's okay I'll just look on the editing help page and--" which is when I noticed it doesn't tell you how. It seems like something people should know and be able to find out easily, so it'd be nice if somebody added it in the article. I would do it myself but I'm not exactly great at editing pages without messing up the templates and such. Just in case somebody needs to know the syntax it goes "< !-- Commented out Text -->" except without a space between ! and <

I also just noticed that this page doesn't mention how to quote text either, so I guess somebody could add that as well. Pjwned 03:17, 7 September 2011 (UTC) by quoting text I mean "something like this". There's no mention of it on the main article.

you can use <nowiki> tags to show stuff, also the quote template isn't used on many wikis and this guide is mostly copy-paste from the wikipedia/wikimedia commons 24.130.140.36 03:25, 7 September 2011 (UTC)
This help page is about the most basic and fundamental wiki code, usually for people who haven't edited wikis before. Commenting text out isn't really something a wiki-newbie has to know (and anyway, it's not wiki-specific code). That quote template isn't necessary either - you can just use "quotation marks" and hey presto you've quoted something. {{quote}} should really only be used on talk pages anyway. pling User Pling sig.png 18:39, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
tbh I would have thought strikethrough was useful and easy enough to note here. --File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 23:56, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I would have to agree with that as well. Pjwned 01:44, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
What if somebody likes editing the wiki a little more often but doesn't know the syntax for stuff like that though? You'd think the solution is to look at this article but it doesn't come through for that. I also don't see any disadvantage in being a bit more thorough about how you can edit the wiki.
Also, the quote template is nice because it makes the text stand out a little better, which can be pretty useful on talk pages (which are a significant portion of the wiki) that are cluttered with walls of text or something like that. Pjwned 01:44, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
