From Droknars forge? and how do we know it was disbanded? -FireFox File:Firefoxav.png 10:27, 19 May 2007 (EDT)

I don't think it is... Devona and King Adelbern are both members to my knowledge. --Santax (talk · contribs) 21:46, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
.
The wiki article states that the guild was disbanded after they lost a lot of members - which I guess refers to The Battle for Kyhlo (?), 1052 AE. Still; 20 years later, in the year of 1072 AE; Devona - daughter of Mordakai, tell of her current membership, and King Adelbern still carries his guilds cape. Prince Rurik also carries the same emblem through his journey - is he then not a member as well, like his father?.
What tale tell of the downfall of Ascalon's Chosen?
I made changes to the article, but in case I am mistaken I took a copy of the old article:
Ascalon's Chosen was a legendary guild of Ascalon led by King Adelbern. During the Guild Wars, it met with much success and was one of the few which stood above the wanton corruption amongst the guilds of that time, but was disbanded after many of the members were killed. All that remains of it now is a lost memory*. They had their residence in the fortress of Kyhlo.

Another Member?[edit]

On April 1, 2010, when we were little and minis were huge, I took a screen shot of a Mad King Thorn mini. His charred cape is clearly (kind of clearly) the Ascalon's Chosen Guild Cape. Here's the screen shot: File:Mad_King_Thorn_Guild_Cape.png. So does anyone know the story behind this?

I actually knew of this before. It is believed by some of the lore community that that is just simply the royal emblem. We know Thorn was the king of Kryta, and that emblem is used with Ascalon royalty. We also know all three human royalties (Krytan, Ascalonian, and Orrian) originate with King Doric. So when they split into three, they might have kept the royal sigil the same - since it is the same family (thus it's actually just a family crest that was implanted as the Ascalon's Chosen guild emblem). -- Konig/talk 20:48, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
I would have to disagree with the theory that the symbol is the royal emblem of the family of King Doric, and therefore is used by the royalty of Kryta, Ascalon, and Orr. All three royal houses using the same symbol, to me, seems untenable. Look at the royal houses of Europe as an example. The many interrelated houses all use different coats of arms. Even branches of the same royal families use different coats of arms. Therefore, the idea that the exact same coat of arms would be used by three separate kingdoms, all the senior and junior descendant branches of those families, and a guild simply doesn't make sense. Also, royal coats of arms are generally protected, and cannot be used by just anyone. A ruling monarch would not allow a guild to use its family coat of arms, even if the leader of the guild was a member of a junior line of the royal house. It is understandable that the guild emblem of Ascalon's Chosen became the coat of arms of the Kingdom of Ascalon when Adelbern ascended to the throne because Adelbern's guild basically helped him usurp the throne from the rightful heir, Duke Barradin. Do we have any idea when King Thorn ruled in the history of Kryta? It makes more sense to me to suggest that the Ascalon's Chosen guild was a successor guild to an earlier guild that used the same coat of arms, or that Ascalon's Chosen is completely unrelated to an older guild to which King Thorn belonged yet used the same symbol of the earlier guild. Multiple guilds in the game use the same symbol, so either of those scenarios are quite possible. The name Ascalon's Chosen itself suggests that a King of Kryta (Thorn) would not have belonged. But if there were a predecessor guild which used the same coat of arms then King Thorn could have belonged to that guild when he lived and ruled. King Thorn mentions peasant rebellions in his dialogue. Why is his guild cape burned and charred? Perhaps he and his guild fell in a large peasant uprising and he died a violent death? Decapitation might explain why he has a pumpkin for a head. I would suggest something like this to the lore community simply because it seems more tenable than the idea of a universal royal coat of arms. Silmalel 15:45, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
I'd like to note that nothing states that this is a coat of arms for Ascalon's Chosen. It is seen on Adelbern's cape, Rurik's cape, Thorn's cape, and a few stones in a very limited number of places (such as Slavers' Exile). I removed the two images as it is speculation (unless someone can provide a source for it being stated to be the Ascalon's Chosen emblem). I'd also like to note that we don't know when Thorn ruled - for all we know, he is Doric's son; he could also be the first king that ruled Kryta alone (it became independant in 358 AE, 359 years after King Doric's death), and thus hadn't changed yet from the succession. Just because he was a king of Kryta doesn't mean he ruled only Kryta, mind you. -- Konig/talk 18:39, 21 June 2010 (UTC)
