About Me

Hello! My name is Silmalel. Actually that's not my name, but it is the name I go by in the gaming world. I'm a huge J.R.R. Tolkien fan, and Silmalel roughly translates as Light of Heaven, Heavenly Light, or Heaven's Light from Quenya to English. You can pick which translation you like best.

I've been playing and loving Guild Wars since August of 2007. I have been involved in 5 guilds since I started playing. The first two were my lame attempts at starting my own guild. I love Samuel Adams beer, so my first guild was called Pour Me A Pint Of Samuel Adams [Beer]. I don't even remember the name of my second guild, but it had something to do with my college fraternity. It was rather short lived. After that I joined Passionate Kiss Of The Immortal [KISS], but the whole Kurzick side of the Kiss Alliance exploded and I woke up one day to find the guild disbanded. After that I joined Terry Pratchett Fans [TURT] and have been a part of this guild since January 24, 2009. I've never read a thing by Terry Pratchett, but I suppose that doesn't matter. On 31 March 2010 my main account characters joined Zealots Of Shiverpeak [ZoS] w00t! It's the oldest guild in the game, founded 10 October 2003 by ArenaNet employees, and is absolutely awesome. The guild and alliance members are very active and out-of-their-way helpful. I'm stoked to be a part of it!

You'll find me playing in just about every part of Guild Wars, but I particularly enjoy everything PvE and Fort Aspenwood PvP. I actually play both sides of Fort Aspenwood depending upon what I feel like doing. My former guild was a Luxon guild so I started on the Lux side, but ZoS is a Kurzick guild and now I mostly play on the defensive side of FA. My favorite PvE areas are the Fissure of Woe and the Underworld. Since the release of Eye of the North I have mostly been working to stock up my HoM in preparation for Guild Wars 2. Below you will find my collection of prestige/elite items such as armor and weapons. Farming cash and materials for armor and weapons has put me back a bit on maxing my titles, but now I'm starting to work on getting the GWAMM title.

The real life me obviously enjoys computer games, which I started playing on a Commodore 64 when I was a kid (LOAD "*",8). I am a committed Christian and work for The United Methodist Church. I am married with children. I am originally from Evansville, Indiana, USA, which is a great place to live. My wife calls my computer "the other woman," but she really is just kidding. I also love The University of Findlay Oilers, and the Duke University Blue Devils, as I am a graduate of both institutions. I must also say, Go Colts! Go Cardinals! Go Tigers! Go Irish! And Go Hoosiers! I love online games like Guild Wars because they allow me to have some fun with far-off friends and family without having to pay subscription fees out the wazoo, which I cannot afford because I am married with children as I mentioned above.

I was a recipient of a signed Christmas card from the Arena Net staff in 2009. It included a pic of the Guild Wars 2 Order of Whispers Armor in it. Very cool, and thanks Arena Net!

Be sure to stop at my talk page and say hi!

Ranger-icon-small.png Silmalel -- has cleared Prophecies and does PvP in Fort Aspenwood.
Ranger-icon-small.png Silmara -- is working on the Survivor title by beating up Dwarves.
Mesmer-icon-small.png Yes I Do Magic -- gets erased & remade a lot because I use her to transfer goods from Pre to Post-searing.
Monk-icon-small.png Yes I Look Divine -- is my narcissistic monk working through Prophecies.
Warrior-icon-small.png Yes I Punched You -- beats monsters up in Pre-searing
Elementalist-icon-small.png Yes I Will Burn You -- sets things on fire in Pre-searing Ascalon.

Why do I have so many characters on two accounts? Some are mules for storage, some are waiting their turn to be played, and with some I wanted to try different things with different characters of the same profession. I have my primary characters that I play almost every day. I have a couple who are working on specific titles, such as Legendary Defender of Ascalon or Survivor. With others, I just wanted to try the profession out to see how I liked it. It also means 24 birthday gifts in a year, 70 Gifts of the Huntsman each week, 10 Gifts of the Traveler each week, and in Nightfall it offers lots of access to Treasure Chests, Do Not Touch, and Buried Treasure, which is all free money (10-23k for each character in Nightfall every 60 days) and decent drops for salvage or sale. Basically, it works for me.
