Cartographer[edit]

Note should be put on here i think telling people this makes exploring the area easy for the cartographer title without actually having to do the challenge mission, even though it's not that difficult to manage, 'tis a lot easier and quicker to just run around rather than dodge foes at the same time. 188.28.88.169 04:42, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Tactics[edit]

Also on another note if people have trouble with this in Hard Mode then the stairs just behind Jinnai lead to a rather nice area which you can bottleneck the Ministry foes coming towards you(from the stairs and across the bridge) making it easy with a minion master and spirit spammer to hold them off without having to run around activating all the traps. 188.28.88.169 04:54, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
I noticed another pretty solid spot. Head into the teleporter at the beginning and then back up a few steps to the south-west. Directly south (according to compass) there is a set of stairs that leads to a graveyard which is kind of cramped, but the thin stairway is the *only* way in, so any Ministry forces will get pushed in.76.88.127.158 18:51, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
In terms of strategy, one must we wary of the fact that both the ministry mages and rangers have nuking abilities, so boarding your party into that graveyard will only work if you can out-nuke them and properly defend yourself. They pile up really quickly, even when killing them a few seconds after they arrive. A good strategy I found was to find a location far away from their spawn points (I ran to the bridge behind Jinnai's location) and take them on one group at a time while the rest were busy running across the map. Ran this mission (NM) 10 times, once for each profession. The graveyard tactic resulted in being swarmed, so I don't see this being the best option, especially in HM. Of the different tactics I tried, the best by far was triggering the initial dialogue and then immediately walk to the high ground opposite the starting point (where the neon flowers are). Miku comes along for the fight, and the mobs were always manageable, as Jinnai was distracting some while others came after me. If the mobs stop coming to you, flag your heroes in the flowers and slowly go round the area until you pull some additional foes. Jinnai will keep respawning and try to join you, which may cause a large mob to swarm, so be careful when hunting for the last groups. Lord Flynt 23:48, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Update: Tried this tactic in HM and found it wasn't viable (at least for me). Found a better strategy, which is posted under the HM page. Lord Flynt (talk) 04:24, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Trouble[edit]

How can it be that i'm the only one who's having trouble with this one? No matter what i try i get wiped every time. And its not even HM. I'm just doing it in normal. I'm playing a ranger and i'm starting to get desperate. DBZVelena | (Talk page) User DBZVelena sig.jpg 18:28, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

I know you're not the only one having trouble (perhaps just the only one posting about it). If you aren't having luck using the current set of tips, maybe you can post your builds and tactics and some of us can offer ideas for what works/doesn't work. In general, the main trick is to pick a spot to defend, spread out, and be careful if retreating (since Jinnai follows slowly and can get caught from behind).
Alternatively, can you provide more info as to what is causing you to wipe? Is Jennai taking too much damage? Are you unable to kill group A before mob B appears? Are you finding it hard to reach a good defensive location? Good luck and keep us posted on your progress (and eventual success). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:09, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for the support I also posted it on guru here: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/quest-finding-jinnai-in-normal-t10503707.html?p=5643574#post5643574 and got a great set up that worked like a charm. I'd post it here but its not my build and credit goes to the creator. So anybody having trouble should go there. DBZVelena | (Talk page) User DBZVelena sig.jpg 20:59, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Awesome. Glad to hear you protected J from those ministerial thugs. (Also: thanks for posting the link and respecting the original author's ideas.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:02, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Constantly deleted walkthrough advice[edit]

Who ever is deleting my walkthrough talking about the graveyard pfft, that is far far harder in HM. Head north and defeat the 2 or 3 groups that spawn after each other. Jinnai and Miku are dying at the start distracting many other groups. Whe ready go south and bring those groups to you, done carefully you can bring Minu and Jinnai seperately and the groups attacking them. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Little Red Ruin (talk • contribs) at 04:08, 22 February 2012 (UTC).

It's a matter of opinion which method is best. Some people prefer including Miku and Jinnai in the squad, especially in HM. I've restored the other advice and included the suggestion you have offered. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:27, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Playing WoC again I certainly would never go near that graveyard the opposite doorway/passageway is a much better option, but if you want to use the matter of opinion argument go for it, I've always been swarmed waiting for Jinnai to join the group.

Forest Gump Reference?[edit]

Is Jinnai a reference to the movie "Forest Gump"? His name sounds a lot like the way Gump said Jenny. And the way that you are trying to find him and him running off all the time are reminiscent of the movie. Plus, some of his lines reminded me of some of the dialogue between Forest and Jenny.--24.255.29.102 00:45, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

thank you anet...[edit]

this is probably the most annoying and frustrating hm quest i've ever done...(and every time i fail...i need to run through the full fucking temple + first part of sh... tunnel...yay...F**K YOU ANET...)...just for another rit hero. 84.182.41.234 01:52, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

These traps...[edit]

What do they do, exactly? All I'm noticing is the boom. Not so much enemy deaths. --Ph03n1x 04:29, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

I second that question, these traps don't seem to do any damage, especially in hm ----Sonyareanne 16:30, 1 March 2012 (UTC)

Teleporter Use[edit]

I was able to complete the quest in HM by using the teleporter as an emergency exit. After finding Jinnai I traveled a little way to the North East towards the teleporter. I didn't use it until I'd been fighting a while and I was in a tight spot. It can instantly move you and all your heros (dead or alive) out of harm's way. Even with just one living hero I was able to res, remove DP and go on to hunt the rest of the Ministry. --Ferox 20:25, 18 June 2012 (UTC)

I used the very same teleporter, but just after triggering the dialouge. Then, I continued north to a choke where you have your back turned against the wall. I had to beat up a group of 3 Ministry members, but then I could just stay there and wait for ye ole' staple 4 Aura of the Lich MMs to stack up. Went afk for 15 minutes and came back only having to clear a group and a spirit of bloodlust. But the 30+ bone horrors helps ;) --46.59.16.165 12:45, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Finally a winning build [2017 Edition][edit]

I ran D/W with Save Yourselves

Rt Soul Twisting
Mo Life Sheath Prot
Mo Light of Deliverance Heal
Me Ineptitude Illusion
N Aura of the Lich
E Unsteady Ground
E Savannah Heat

Parked my team by the dead end door. monks flagged in the back, rit in the front with spirits, rest in between. I beat all the ones that spawned, then got Miku first to get her aggro's, then Jinnai once it cooled down. Tried discord, tried SoS, this is what worked for me in NM --adrin User Adrin mysig.jpg 23:59, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Discord and SoS are both kind of terrible set-ups anyway. Panic works miracles on this quest as well, for Hard Mode. - Infinite - talk 11:10, 29 July 2017 (UTC)

Advantageous Bug with enemy spirits[edit]

When I was outside of Compass range of Jinnai, enemy Ministry Ritualists and some of the Necromancers would place Spirits and summon Minions that were Neurtal, they were non-targetable green and would not attack me. This really helped when I tried the strategy to run away at the back instead of defending on of the chokepoint locations. I have a photo if anyone else can replicate something like this? 213.249.223.66 15:44, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Weird[edit]

I just did both the standard quest and the HM quest. When I was doing the normal mode "Finding Jinnai" quest with hard mode active, I found myself swarmed by massive numbers when I tried to use the Graveyard tactic. Tons of ministry, lots of enemy bone minions. I failed this a few times until I went without HM active by accident (after logging out). I then decided to finish the quest anyway since I was getting my butt kicked before and figured I'd still have the HM quest to do afterwards. To my surprise, the HM quest was surprisingly easy with only small groups (8 or so Ministry per group) that were easily taken care of. So to sum up my experience:

NM finding jinnai in normal mode: easy small groups (like 8 ministry)
HM finding jinnai in hard mode: easy small groups (like 8 ministry)
NM finding jinnai in hard mode: very hard, swarmed by massive groups

I don't know if it's a bug or something, it's difficult to reproduce since you can't repeat the quest. Just thought I'd mention it here, because it seems like there has been disagreement about whether or not the Graveyard tactic results in your team getting swarmed. Perhaps some people were getting the small groups while others were getting the massive groups. --Lerajie (talk) 17:00, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Not a bug, but a feature of Hard Mode. Hard mode often modifies enemy spawn quantity, (sometimes drastically, like the Vaettir in Jaga Moraine) in addition to the other buffs. My guess is that hard mode modifications apply the spawns from normal mode quests, but not from hard mode quests? Or the hard mode quests are specifically designed to counteract some of the things that hard mode normally modifies. horrible | contribs 17:12, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
That makes a lot of sense, thanks. Edit: I will say though, this is the first quest I've noticed something like this happening. I've done WoC with HM active for the previous quests and those didn't seem different. Perhaps Finding Jinnai is one they forgot to modify? --Lerajie (talk) 18:30, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Something has changed[edit]

Since last I did this quest, somethign has changed. Miku no longer stays at the "chat" point. She follows you if she is anywhere in your compass range (compass not aggro).

As noted in the poster above me, there seems to be a "massive" lump of foes that attack the cemetary all at once about midway thru the quest. I do not recall such numbers in the past two times - I did this years ago. I think it may be notable that I repeated the quest a number of times both in nm and hard mode with the same overwhelmign results. Eventually I decided to try the "north of cemetary" spawn point described on the main page - and killed about 6 spawns (mobs/groups) without being attacked from behind, and when they seemed to stop coming from that direction, retreated to the cemetary as usual. Flagged my hero pack in the corner ne of the stairtop, and stood halfway down the steps. While I had to micro the ST hero for some reason, the groups did NOt come all at once as before, and were now manageable. I also noted that this time (unlike all previous 20? times) Jinnai was this time wandering around the map instead of doing somethign stupid like coming to find me. If you are having trouble with this quest, I recommend giving this a try. Worked in HM, but I suspect it was the pre-thinning and giving Jinnai a chance to start his rounds off camera that aided me, not the difficulty setting. Edit: I did seem to see less mediums / minions than previous attempts, and Miku was indeed with me (somewhat unavoidable).
