Talk:Fox's Promise

How in the world is this worth an elite? Compared to Guided Weapon this skill sucks. As a weapon spell, it cannot be removed like Fox's Promise and it can be given to anyone, not just yourself, and it will not end if you fail to hit. -- Hercanic 07:25, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Every skill in communing is instantaneously worse than this, because it's in communing. --Edru/QQ 08:00, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

OMG did u realy just compare this to guided weapon... guided weapon cost 15 points of nrg and doesnt last as long. the sins role is dmg not support so there is no reason for them to be casting spells on allies and guided weapon doesnt last as long. Fox's promise is more nrg efficient lasts longer and allows the sin to us it without digging DEEP into a school of magic from another classes proffession. Sure if u wanted to coordinate some wicked combo using a Sin and a Rit i'd understand ur argument. but much more lethal Sin+Rit combos can be done w/o Guided weapon.

I think what Hercanic is trying to say is that this doesn't deserve to be elite. — Galil User Galil sig.png 05:41, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Exactly. Guided Weapon may be in Communing, it may cost more, have a longer cast time, and not last as long, but if you really want to prevent blocking there are better alternatives to wasting an elite. Guided Weapon costs 15 energy versus FP's 10 energy, it takes 2 seconds to cast versus 1 second, and it can last 10 seconds versus 20. However, the recharge is only 5 seconds compared to 20, it's a non-removable weapon spell as opposed to a strippable enchantment (if removed, the recharge time prevents it from being reapplied immediately), it does not end if you fail to hit (making that recharge time on FP hurt if you miss), and let's face it, it's a non-elite compared to an elite. Elites are usually comparable to two skills glued together or are significantly better than non-elite alternatives.
Let's look at the Necromancer hex, Rigor Mortis. Same energy, cast time, duration, and recharge. The difference is first, it's a hex versus enchantment, and second it doesn't end if anyone misses. Oh, and it's not an elite. What makes Rigor Mortis better is more than just yourself can benefit (spike, anyone?). The downside is if you need to switch targets.
The strongest argument for FP, though, is the attribute it's tied to: Critical Strikes. An assassin primary needs high marks in it regardless, so keeping your skills as concentrated as possible helps. Random Arena aside, though, most game types involve organized teamplay. So if you're an assassin who really needs to counter blocking, why not have a Ritualist or Necromancer in your midline? That way, as an assassin you can focus on what you're meant to do best--deal high damage quickly--with an elite which compliments that goal as much as possible. Overall, Fox's Promise does have a few advantages, but it just falls short of truly being worthy of elite status. -- Hercanic 03:27, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
lolwut? not worth of being elite? try critscythe sins hitting in the 100's most if not all of the time and being unblockable. Wearying > Ermites > Mystic = wtfpwn as an unblockable spike combo. Please lrn2plai before you knock a perfectly viable elite. 68.193.221.34 04:41, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

One thing you have to keep in mind against critical strike/scythe assassins is that they have very low survivability and anti-melee hexes will always ruin their build so I agree that this skill should either be reworked and or made non-elite.William Wallace 05:41, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

because anti-melee can shut down a build with this elite... you think it needs a rework? Omg, a necro shut down my dragon slash build, BUFF D SLASH NUBS! Tsk tsk. FleshAndFaith 17:40, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Nerf[edit]

HaHa no more unblockable scythes but this was unnededThe Golden Arrow 21:58, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Nerfbat smacked this one. It's gone. 76.89.81.150 23:02, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

Why was this skill nerfed?? I can guarantee you that this skill will never be used and can be tossed into the Guild Wars "junk pile of skills" that will never see use again ever (mind burn, crippling anguish, signet of suffering, and balthazar's pendulum and many more are just a few). Fox Promise scythe assassins was one of the very few buids that relied on maintain all enchantments up constantly and removing just one enchantment *yes just one) almost ruins the build completely and any type of skills that caused burning or high fire damage just tears right through them. At least if anything, rework this skill to where it might actually be used again.William Wallace 13:04, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

theres an awesome smite healer build with pendulum nowadays :) things change dude.--220.245.178.132 15:09, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
@Wallace. Watch obs, Proffesional Athletes vs anybody. Unblockable, unblindable spikes with deepwound and 150 damage crits is pretty imba. rawr played against and they were constantly rending the sin, and it didn't make any difference to the match outcome. It needed a nerf. Also, Crip Anguish was used on mesmer runners way back, its just other skills are better now and Bal Pendulum is used extensively in 4 man TA teams. Why make comments on PvP balance if you don't know about whats run?
If the recharge is lowered, I can see this being used again in its current form. Saphatorael 11:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Agreed. Being unblockable is a lot more useful than some people notice, especially assassins. DancingZombies 22:44, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Do you realize they only were unblockable if they had an enchantment up?? All you had to do was strip them of their enchantments and since this skill has a twenty second recharge time and almost all critical scythe builds had no defenses skills whatsoever so that means they were always the first ones to die (yes they were easy to take down and never had a problem against them whatsoever -just play as a searing flame elemental and you can tear right through in eight seconds). As far as the other skills are concern, it doesn't matter if it was used a lot in the past if it is bad and not getting used now than their is no way possible you can try to make it look good unless whoever is balancing those elites changes them. Also please sign your comments.William Wallace 04:57, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Good riddance to the unblockable critical hit scythe builds.

I don't understand the old unblockable scythe, didn't people just cast blind on the dude and the spell automatically ends? - Elder Angelus 19:35, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
No, im pretty sure assassin's remedy will get the blind before the next attack.

That's two skill slots, one of them being a stance. Xhata 09:39, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Obvious note[edit]

Isn't it already rather obvious enough from the description? ***EAGLEMUT*** TALK 15:40, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Not the first part maybe...didn't realize the second part until reading it though 98.22.208.110 09:53, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

This skill is crap[edit]

What a waste of a SoC. You can just cast a simple, long-lasting enchantment like Way of Perfection to make all of your attack skills unblockable. Plus it ends if you fail which is really easy to do. Worthless skill, even if it wasn't elite. They should give added damage or something if they want to call it elite. 68.59.126.206 10:12, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

  • 1. Way of Perfection doesnt make attack skills unblockable.
  • 2. It isnt waste of a SoC if you want max your tittle. 89.75.188.122 19:56, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
