i'd like to know why they nerfed HEV--189.70.106.17 19:28, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Kinda dull update, some skills make no sense; such as the fact that unless they do something spiffy to elemental flame it'll still suck. Pious assault is a bit more interesting, slap on the wrist to the magebane rangers, which is alright I suppose. Nothing too drastic in the end, it could have been funner. Two things I'll try when I start GW again:
- Slap on scorpion wire on my paragon to harass monks or flag runners.
- See if sundering weapon makes a drastic change if I combine it with a golden phoenix -> SA combo.
on a side note: lol they're trying to make vengeance usable. --97.100.157.41 19:33, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- i wanna test out signet of agony and elemental flame, feels like the assassin got 2 new skills, mesmer update was dissapointing. maybe Coward may be used with signet of agression now --Cursed Angel 19:36, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- The Vengeance buff is the funniest part, is there gonna be someone stupid enough to use it now?
- lol u never know, maybe there'll be like sacrifice warriors that kill themselves and then monks cast vengaence on them, lol at anet even trying. --Cursed Angel 19:45, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Hey at least they are starting to move in the right direction and at least try to make crappy skills usable, izzy didnt nerf much this time around the table. --Lou-Saydus 19:45, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed. And I quite like the changes so far. The best part is no class got only nerfed. The biggest nerf was IMO Hex Eater Vortex. The Pious Assault change is very interesting. Anyways, going to travel to Korea. They must be really terrible there, every 2nd word seems to get word-filtered... ;) --Longasc 19:50, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

- Well Warmonger's is dead. Antiarchangel 19:50, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Not really, with high spawning and channeling this skill is still VERY effective at interrupting casters. you just dont slap it on whoever you want and spam away, it requires tactics and timing. --Lou-Saydus 19:56, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- one of my favourite skills, maybe gonna try it with glyph of renewal but then i cant use flurry, awhatever... --Cursed Angel 19:57, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

With the new hero skill update hero's wont relay spirits again until the first spirit drops it just sits there recharged with a check mark on it until the first spirit dies
- Pious Assault paves way for non-Melandru Dervishes, which will be an interesting twist to the Pro-Warrior fronts. Smiter's and Dervishes were always an amazingly energy efficient team this just makes them that much more playable. They really want people to use Healer's Boon as well. 1-2 second Ressurects...Too bad it'll just be Shatter bait, although Holy Haste as a cover could make it worth it...Almost The Mo/A got a couple of neat skills that "may" trump Return, snaring will always be key though. Ranger's with Rapid Fire and the quick activations should be interesting. Those will be 2/3rd casts? Don't remember the math. Wastrel's in the right shut down build could be insane DPS, I almost want to say that skill alone scares me more than anything else. Then again, I make horrible builds... Where was the IWAY bar nerf? :< -- Tr33zon ಠ_ಠ (Talk - Contribs) 21:37, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- Just checked out the new Pious assault, it owns some serious face, especially when you have something like Mirage Cloak there to blow up with it, big damage spike. --Ckal Ktak 22:48, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Generally this is an absolutely atrocious update, does nothing of any significance, the warmongers, aura, and magebane shot nerfs were pathetic at best and there's a distinct lack of tweaks to Augery of Death, Splinter Weapon and Ancestor's Rage. Get a grip. Yesitsrob 22:56, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- That's just what you think needs changing based on your likely biased opinion (every player's opinion is biased, this isn't personally against you), it's Izzy's job to do good updates and, so learn to trust that his opinion is probably better than yours. --Ckal Ktak 23:04, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
- In this case, it really isn't. Ancestor's Rage being retarded is a pretty goddam popular opinion. Yesitsrob 04:10, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- Normally I'd dispute that Izzy's or any other Anet persons opinion is better, but in this case it is. Magebane was owning arenas, dervishes get a new deep wound, and it general brought more useless skills to use. Good update for once. Antiarchangel 23:09, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Misc: Hero Skill key bindings[edit]
At first I was so hyped, then I realized that at best, this is a minor mini-management buff, and am still sad that minions don't get a Party Panel update. Still, my 1-9 are probably gonna be the first three skills of my Hero Bars now, since I already have 1-8 mapped to QWER/ASDF. --BarGamer 20:32, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

- Very nice, thanks ANet. A single "Next Minion" binding would be nice, pretty please? When no minion is selected, starting with the oldest (or highest age degen) and nexting to the next newer minion would be really useful (and, of course, shift w/key would go backward). People stop whining about AR being overpowered. Its supposed to be that way. O and run 2 W/P in TA with coward dolyak sig and flail, with barbed spear and weapon of fury from a rit. Fucking hilarious. Useless update imo 24.141.45.72 03:01, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Ranger Skills[edit]
Lol thanks izzy, these buffs make marksmanship rangers fun to play again, and not over powered because a simple blinding flash or fainthearted totally shuts em down. (im talking about RA/AB here ppl) --Lou-Saydus 19:26, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Is it good in top5 GvG? Who cares, do I care? Did anybody even mention top5 GvG? Why then do you feel that every single skill in the game needs to be good there, to be good? Ha? When I play Fort Aspenwood I take skills I never would actually take, and do I care if they are good in top5 GvG? No ma'am. I couldn't care less. And if I took skills that were good in top5 GvG, I would suck there. So why would anyone take skills good at XY when they suck as XX? Beats me. - Tbh, i said I would ragequit if I saw it in RA, and I said that those skills are not used in comp PvP. Nothing more. They were 2 different statements. Take a chillpill. I'm far from elite btw, not even in top750+ (about to be though), and my only PvP titles are Gladiator (2), r4 and some Kurzick and Luxon titles (2 or 3 I think). - I'd rather avoid these skills, ty. BlazeRick 16:38, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- OK, let's calm down emotions then. I'll put it like this: I was skeptical myself at first. Then I tried it. And I love it. :) You don't have to trust me, but at least try it. I'm r6 gladiator, so I can pretty much tell the difference between that dmg build and other dmg builds. Try something like this: Precision Shot, Penetrating Attack, Sundering Attack, Savage Shot, Lightning Reflexes, Marksman's Wager, Conjure Flame, Rez. 12 expertise, 15 marks, 8 fire. Hornbow. I am not claiming this build is optimal, but it's the best one I came up with so far (to utilize buffed skills that is). Player skill is important as usual; you should avoid those who have block on themselves (crit assassins for instance) and continue switching targets. Keep in mind that, as unbelievable as it sounds, you can easily take down warriors, which sometimes seem better targets as well (less health, and monks seem not to be too careful at healing them until it's too late). 30% armor penetration is cool. - I've seen quite a few people use it with Augury for the Deep Wound. It packs a punch, but nothing too special I'd say. Gothica 14:45, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've seen Augury too, and I consider it inferior. By the time you cast Augury you could've probably made another hit, which means dmg. And Augury means you can't take Conjure, which is a serious disadvantage considering how hard you hit and how frequently. Augury would be for spike, but if you're using the build i posted above, Augury is completely useless because in fact ur technically semi-spiking all the time (you don't run out of energy). A single hit I did on warrior who switched Frenzy did 170dmg, and if you're observant you're going to be able to use that opportunity quite often. Servant of Kali 14:54, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
*Approves*[edit]
See, this is what GW needs more of. When people scream "NERF THIS SKILL" what they really want is not a nerf, but a buff to other skills that counter the supposedly imbalanced one. When people cry about and other skills being overpowered, then just make an easy, effective way to counter it. The fairly minor nerfs in this update are hardly noticable, and some previously "useless" skills are now seeing some play. Good job, Izzy. --Srakin 00:16, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- It's a first step towards that. But, there's still at least 300 more skills that need improvement. --8765 07:53, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Careful how you say that, if you never nerf but only buff, you just get power creep. --Ckal Ktak 18:08, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- Better power creep than only 15 skills ever used for each class. Regardless, many nerfs were quite brutal, and if anything, we're seeing a reverse power creep. GvG is still nearly 100% determined by monks. --8765 00:08, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

WTB IWAY NERF???[edit]
Okay, wow- Izzy once again proves that he listens to players in absoloutely no way whatsoever, and completely bases his balances around GvG, and no other form of PvP.
IWAY is a becoming a pain again- not to say it's impossible to beat- but it needed a nerf, and HA'ers have been screaming about it since the LoD nerf. SS, Fear Me, and perhaps even the IWAY skill itself should've been tweaked, but it seems that since people don't run IWAY in GvG, it's gonna get ignored. People in ID 1 of HA have been talking about it for weeks- "can't wait for the skill balance and IWAY nerf" ... and this is the shit you come out with? IWAy is a problem, so let's nerf Aura and Warmongers (two moderately good skills to use against it) and continue to let over-armored para/healers and button-mashing warriors farm fame all the way to halls. Thanks again ANet, for showing how much you DON't care what goes on in Hero's Ascent anymore. gfg.
- In the words of a large Slavic friend of mine, "CRY SOME MORE". -- Luigi (T/C) 17:43, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
- Tbh, you KNOW IWAY will be something you face in HA. So, bring Vocal Minority or, Diversion, or a Mesmer with Power Interrupts vs the Paragons (or a PD maybe?), or... It isn't that hard to beat IWAY. QQ moar, wait for the next skill update, be smarter than IWAY, run IWAY, or just /uninstall. The problem with IWAY (much like the problem was with the original IWAY build) is that you have many skill that have to be nerfed (greatly) in order to nerf the build. This will make many skills less or not useful for other builds (and will provoke moar QQ). I'm sure Izzy's working on IWAY (and Icy Veins and w/e other build that's being QQ-ed about). Just be patient, or write Anet a letter on how you think IWAY should be nerfed if you think you know better than Izzy. BlazeRick 17:47, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
ppl whine so much about IWAY , it's so easly countered by Vocal Minority or Well of Silence , just bring one of these skils and you are done.--189.70.209.128 00:51, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
- Stop crying, IWAY is fine. Its one of the few groups unranked players can usually get into, which is good for getting r3 and therefore being able to play normal HA, its a cleverly done build, and its survived for as long as guild wars been around. Why do you think after 2 years, they'd nerf it now. And + its easily countered anyway. Vocal minority, gg. -Warior kronos 04:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Why do you think after 2 years, they'd nerf it now. And + its easily countered anyway. Vocal minority, gg. -Warior kronos 04:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Tbh, I think all of you are bad. Also, if IWAY was nerfed, how would ZoS obtain fame? Logic is gud, so i hurd. Not a big deal however, as IWAY is usually filled with bad people. If you can't beat IWAY: fail less, cry more. --Readem 23:42, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
- Side note, I've played HA with ZoS, they weren't using IWAY ;) --Kyle van der Meer 16:57, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
- Readem is always right, listen to him and fail less, and even if u continue to fail dont QQ here, go to myspace or somewhere else --Cursed Angel 17:15, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
Drops nerf?[edit]
I have heard from some people I've talked to that this update, or one of the other recent updates increased the rate at which uninscribable purples/golds etc are found in NF and GW:EN. I mean, usually you'd see maybe 2-3 in your playing time but they are reporting it far more often since a recent update. I'm wondering if anyone else has seen anything to this effect and if so, if this is a bug or intentional... Jennalee 01:42, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
- That's the cool thing about random drops. The frequent of the drops can increase randomly. BlazeRick 19:32, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
- I have told myself I see more dyes all of a sudden.. Probably no change, but it makes you happy to think they have buffed the drops. Not nerfed. :P - anja 19:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
