Would it be a violation (considering this is Guild Wars' official wiki) to copy the game manual verbatim onto this? If not, I'll take the burden of laying out the foundation. — Jyro X 21:18, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Yes, it would be. The only way an article like this could exist, using official text, is if a representative of ArenaNet posted the article or gave us permission. —Tanaric 21:23, 7 February 2007 (PST)
Well I think it would be superbly upstanding of them if they did this. See Guild Wars Wiki:Official Content for more of my views on the matter. — Jyro X 21:29, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Not to copy it verbatim, but to write one in our own words. Frankly, this was linked on a whim while creating a bunch of stubs. There is no reason set in stone why it should exist. S 21:28, 7 February 2007 (PST)

Actually, we CAN copy the gameplay manual directly... see Guild_Wars_Wiki:Copyrights
Content obtained from Guild Wars, its web sites, manuals and guides, concept art and renderings, press and fansite kits, and other such copyrighted material, may also be available from this site. All rights, title and interest in and to such content remains with ArenaNet or NCsoft, as applicable, and such content is not licensed pursuant to the GFDL.

Actually, the manuals I saw were all in graphic format, with loads of concept art. To just copy the text would seem to loose the essence of the manual. Should we post a series of screen shots from the manuals? LeFick 02:52, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
For the record, at the time of the above conversation, Project:Copyrights didn't exist in that form. :) —Tanaric 04:10, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
Wouldn't this fall under the same licensing as the other game materials? We use the official Guild Wars items for the information posted in the wiki, and there is no issue with permission. Doesn't the game manuals come under the same licensing already in use? 42 - talk 21:03, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Checked the copyright page and found the quote on the page Guild_Wars_Wiki:Copyrights referenced above. Alexanderpas is right. I was going to repost the same quote, til I re-read the post and saw Alex had already done so. I think this covers it clearly. Reposting the text from the game manuals is allowed according to this. The information included is still the property of ANet, but it seems to be allowed for re-posting to the wiki. I say go for it.
BTW, I was thinking of seeing if we could have one central location for the gameplay manuals referenced in the subpages, for example the one for Ascalon, and have a way on that page to reference and show the relevant text from that particular section of the manuscript(s) on the page. I am going to check into that, for my own information as well. 42 - talk 21:24, 4 November 2009 (UTC)

Security warning when trying to open links[edit]

I get q note that my connection is not private when I try to click on one of the manuals and that attackers might steal info and so on. Steve1 (talk) 19:59, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

Looks like the SSL certificate in use on legal.guildwars.com expired last october. it has the same domain allowances as the one currently in use on the main site (that being *.guildwars.com), so I imagine it was just overlooked. horrible | contribs 20:27, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
I've poked Anet about this. Thanks for pointing it out. Greener (talk) 17:03, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
