Talk:Great Northern Wall

Rin is not North of the Wall. When you do the Nolani mission you go through the wall and Rin is in the South. There is a large city, called Surmia which is North of the wall in the mission Ruins of Surmia. --129.21.239.73 15:52, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

I thought the same thing too, untill i actually looked at my map during the mission.--Personn5 00:01, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
We've got more then 3 million players to push back the Charr, now all we need is clay and mud bricks to fix it. --King Of Kamelott 18:53, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
I wanna know how everyone is still alive >_> All I see in Ascalon now is tar instead of water. If there is a Civil war going on in the shiverpeaks I doubt theres trade coming in from Kryta. And with the soil all burnt up like that, I doubt food could be grown either. So how are the ascalonians still alive? <_< Conflagration.jpg 05:50, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
It's a combination of Elementalist water magic, with fire to melt the ice. Obviously. --Talonz User Talonz sig.gif // 07:19, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

Devona..?[edit]

Looks like Devona with a shield and sword or axe, standing to the right.

oops..forgot this --216.119.178.127 04:58, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
Quite certainly not. Devona wields a hammer, and wears different armor. Mad King's Stewardess Tell 01:18, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Great Wall of China[edit]

I don't think this has anything to do with the Great Wall of China. From a historical perspective, this seems much more inspired in both function and location by the wall constructed by the Celts to keep the invading Romans out. 216.185.250.92 23:08, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

The Celts never built a wall to keep the Romans out. It was the other way around. It's called Hadrian's Wall. there are still parts of it left in the UK. --Exelion18120 03:23, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
My apology, you're correct, I just wasn't thinking when I was typing it. 216.185.250.92 07:46, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
I noticed the same thing. The only resemblance The Great Northern Wall has with the Wall of China is that it is a wall. If it is based on a historical wall, it is probably based on Hadrian's Wall, and even that is probably not the case. I'll remove that note from the page. Works Great![edit]

Yup, takes them something like 250 years to build this thing, and it only lasts about a hundred years... (now I can't find where I read that...)--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 05:03, 2 July 2011 (UTC)

I'd like to know where you got your 250 years from. The GNW Was "erected" in 898 AE according to the timeline, and fell in 1070 AE (182 years). I actually recall the Ecoogy of the Charr saying it was built a lot sooner... I think that this article's incorrect. *checks* Ah yes, "The humans took full advantage of this time of disunity, building the Great Northern Wall" "this time" being shortly after the Khan-Ur's death, which was shortly after the time that Ascalon was founded. So the Great Northern Wall's construction was finished in 898, but it took roughly 800-900 years to build in its entirety. Mind you, you can see that different portions of the wall look different and as such were likely built at different times, so 898 is likely the year in which the latest addition to the wall was finished. Still, point being, it took long to finish building than, in its completed state, it lasted. (note to self: next time one has a gigantic vermin infestation, build giant wall)--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 05:08, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
Isn't that how it always is for big structures? Due to the size and weight, they don't last long. This is even moreso for when you're fighting something. And do keep in mind that if it wasn't for something that almost destroyed the ecosystem for an entire region, the wall would of remained. And even after that, pieces still remain and those pieces still do their job - to a lesser extent, mind you. Konig/talk 05:19, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
In Ghosts of Ascalon Dougal says it took 900 uears to build and only lasted around 200.--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 20:20, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
900 years to build the whole thing. Just like the Great Wall of China, this thing was built in segments. Konig/talk 20:32, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Yes, but the great Wall of China is still mostly complete.--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 20:17, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Well yeah, the Mongolians haven't nuked China, causing an ecological disaster... yet. Konig/talk 21:06, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
Do the Mongolians have nukes?--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 02:56, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
