Allow characters to use mercenary versions of themselves?[edit]

I understand the reason why it is not possible right now, but to me this is quite ridiculous - if I'd like to add my Mesmer to the Hero list because Mesmers are one of the classes that only have 2 original Heroes, she herself will NOT be able to have 3 Me heroes anyway, unless I register 2 Me heroes or use a phony character for this. This is more important imho then amassing armiers of clones, especially since we already can have 2 or more same Heroes in one party. And if players themselves are bothered by clone armies, they have a few ways of fixing it: explicitly listing 2 Mercenary Heroes of the same profession to avoid it, or simply changing their armor. As for names, a functionality similar to the one already existing for regular heroes can be introduced (changing their name to f.e. "[Personality] [Profession]" - "Arrogant Mesmer" if they appear in the same party as their source). This will still be less harmful than Gwen and 5 Vanguard Mesmers appearing in the Deep ;) Sethrea 07:18, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Make a PvP character, make it a Mesmer, then make that the Mercenary. Delete the PvP character, and you'll still have the Mesmer Merc. No loss. Tashiro 07:46, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
I know I can do this, I've already mentioned this possibility in my original post. But I think it's quite obvious some would like to use their main for this, like me. Sethrea 07:48, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
I don't get your point. team composition can stay the same no matter what. If you have a mes with 2 mes heroes, thats 3 mes in a party. If you play as a different main, you can have the mes heroes and a merc version of your mes player char, thus still giving you 3 mesmers in the party. Not really seeing anything wrong with that. -- Salome User salome sig2.png 17:03, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Page Redundancy[edit]

A lot of information on this page is about mercenary heroes themselves rather than the Mercenary Registrar and is in fact redundant with much of the info on the page specifically about mercenary heroes. It should be cleaned up.

I concur. I think what would be best is to name each of the registrars, quote what they say to people who come to talk to them, and have a map showing where they are in each of the regions. A link to 'mercenary hero' would be a plus. Tashiro 14:41, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

Old Spice[edit]

Sebastian speaks like the old spice guy Isiah Mustafa, shame, they should've used this skin http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Royal_Food_Taster_Rendu Zachariah Zuan. 15:12, 4 March 2011 (UTC)

My heroes are now diamonds. I'm on a wiki. XD Sardaukar User Sardaukar sig.png 17:52, 5 March 2011 (UTC)

Boycott[edit]

"Imagine: your other characters could be traveling with you right now! In order to sign up, all you need is to purchase Mercenary Hero Slots. You can pick them up at the Guild Wars In-Game Store or NCsoft Store."

I read this line and bought slots... now im pissed because i CANT actually travel with my other Characters, just with pityful useless naked(unmodified) copies...(i actually wanted to play with my other chars including runes weapons n stuff, but no 3 additional pve skills per char, for balance and the need for human groups), my purse sits too loose... Yeah i could have read all the infos and stuff but i was too happy with the update that i wanted to check everything out immediately... and that line said it so fine... Thou shall demand a refund! until they poor souls of anet give us whats worth the money they demand!--80.123.20.3 19:24, 7 March 2011 (UTC)Marrt

True, there could be better clarification, but if Merc. Heroes were created with runes etc., that would flood the game with free items. G R E E N E R 18:34, 6 March 2011 (UTC)
-.- i meant that i fight with my actual character, like the line states, when i remove the rune, i remove it from character

Mercenary Registrars named for Butlers?[edit]

  • Valkenhayn R. Hellsing is the Alucard family butler in BlazBlue
  • Hayate Ayasaki, aka w:Hayate the Combat Butler
  • Alfred Pennyworth is the Wayne family butler in the Batman universe
  • Sebastian Michaelis is the eponymous w:Black Butler
  • Norman Burg is Roger Smith's butler and mechanic to w:The Big O

And most of them seem to be decent fighters in their own right. Coincidence? JnK 05:56, 12 March 2011 (UTC)

I was thinking the same thing about a week ago, but I couldn't find any combat butler called Alfred (I didn't bother thinking about Batman since I didn't know whether Aflred Pennyworth can fight and the others all looked to be of Japanese origin).
I instantly saw that. And came to comment it. I guess three agreeing is enough to add at least a simple trivia entry. Sebastian and Alfred are somewhat common names for butlers in fiction, Norman is also a common name, and Hayate isn't that special, but Valkenhayn is way too specific, since the actual german surname is "Falkenhayn", and the Japanese Hellsing had the name written incorrectly because "F" and "V" in Japanese use similar Katakana. They are clearly butlers from fiction, but at least that one is clearly from the game. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 02:11, 15 February 2012 (UTC)
I think y'all have sufficiently documented this in terms of relevancy + notability. (One or two might be [ahem] trivial, especially since Albert isn't an unusual name, but 5/5... cannot be a coincidence.) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:06, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Mercenary Registrars locations[edit]

At the moment, there is a Mercenary Registrar in Kamadan which is where you begin the game in NightFall. So in NF, you can get your new Heroes from the start. There is also one in the Kaineng Center, which is only a few missions in or only an hour or two into the Factions game. So in Factions you can get your Heroes shortly into the game. But, in Prophecies the first Mercenary Registrar we encounter is in Lions Arch, which is a good few missions in or several hours into the game mean we have to wait quite a bit before we can get the heroes.

Should there not be more balence in their locations? Like maybe move the LA one to Ascalon and the Kaineng Center one to Shing Jea Monastery or the Kamadan one to the Sunspear Command Post or something. User Tytan Crow Crow.jpg Titan Crow 16:45, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

The current locations are consistent with the storylines and difficulty levels of the campaigns:
  • Prophecies is mostly the aftermath of the Searing until LA; darker forces aren't noticeable until you start heading into Kryta. You can't capture elites until LA (no SoC) and even your attribute point quests are buried in the Crystal Desert (after LA). Even MOX isn't available until you reach the port.
  • Factions doesn't get as interesting until KC, which is also where you gain access to the SoC. Again, MOX isn't unlockable until this port city.
  • Nightfall is the exception; clearly, ANet started to realize it isn't that much fun to be without key tools for so long.
So, is it fair? No, not particularly, but it's 100% consistent with how the game has been structured all along. I recommend that you create a suggestion and see if you can garner up some support for it. (It wouldn't be that hard to add the registrars to more locations, but I suspect ANet thought of this and decided not to.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:30, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
I too am a little ‘miffed’ that after buying two slots, I will still have to slog though the Shiverpeaks with only henchmen. But I would instead suggest that this has to do with programming; an extension of the coding that added M.O.X. to the game (before M.O.X., Prophecies and Factions had no Heroes, so no way to add them to a Party). As to why ANet choose Lions Arch and Kaineng Center as the points to add M.O.X. (and now, Mercenary Registrars)…it may be that they structured everything up to the “Port Cities” to teach new players Game Mechanics, and didn't want to introduce shortcuts that would be detrimental to that end. — Nonsuch 19:41, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
