These parts of the article from GWiki are not from me, I deleted them:

  • All red dots on your mini map disappear.
  • Following reconnect, you will need to reconnect to the friends server in order to use whispers in the in-game chat window. You will be prompted to re-enter your password.

Cut scene[edit]

I added "* Attempting to reconnect during a cut scene will not allow you to reconnect.", but I didn't think to take a screenshot at the time. It happened after clicking to skip the cut scene just before Boreas Seabed. It asked if I wanted to attempt to reconnect, but it wouldn't let me and displayed an error message. When I reconnected, I was in Boreas Seabed, though. Pae 23:24, 8 February 2007 (PST)

I think you disconnected while loading the instance (= cutscene). This is described in notes as well. BigBlue 23:42, 8 February 2007 (PST)
It was just before loading the Boreas Seabed location, so I don't think that it's an instance (outside of outposts, isn't it?). ~ File:GeckoSprite.gif Pae 23:50, 8 February 2007 (PST)
I'm not aware what cutscene it is, but every time when you see a loading screen you enter a new instance - even it is only a cutscene. BigBlue 00:14, 9 February 2007 (PST)
This only applys to loading of instances, cut scene that happen while in a mission are not restricted. I.E. d/c while fighting shiro, reconnect while Envoys are talking. You will connect to find the cut scene is going on without you and you can walk around the NPC's. I used to have pics of this but that was several computers ago. Confirm may be needed to see if it will still work, other mid-mission cut scenes should have the same effect. The Only Warrior 04:01, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

exploit? whosawhatsit now?[edit]

i never heard of any exploit... what, d/c while trading and the item gets duped? or dc while a mob is dropping an item and the same thing happens? well, i hope they fix it... cheaters suck my salty baguettes. -TehBuG-

Basically: ANet didn't implement reconnects properly, but they had to do it because their connectivity is so crappy. So then some PvE scrubs find a way to dupe items, and "for the sake of the economy" they nuke reconnects entirely, causing the people who actually *use* them (folks who need 25 minutes of connectivity to complete a GvG with eight people) to be unable to use them.
Wow, thanks anet! Now people like me who have poor internet service can get totally screwed over everytime we're hours into a pve mission and lose connectivity for a few moments. All thanks to a few idiot dupers and a poorly implemented reconnect feature. This is the kind of thing that makes me want to quit guild wars--Stormrunner 23:05, 17 August 2007 (UTC)
Ok...you can QQ now. Readem Sorry, I'll stop trolling now. 23:14, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

When will reconnect be reactivated?[edit]

Are there some information about when the reconnect-feature ist reactivated? Its very upsetting to be kicked of just before you completed someting without reconnect. Sir Astaroth 12:09, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Reconnect after update...[edit]

It seems you generally can't reconnect if there has been an update. I got an error 7 after 8/11 quests in FOW and couldn't reconnect...very annoying, since I can hardly control when an update occurs or when I get an error 7 LunarEffect 23:33, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Hardly any chance of reconnect[edit]

I have had a couple of experiences with disconnect, where it wouldn't let me reconnect, if gw.exe had been shut down before the reconnect, it appears, in my experience, that you can only reconnect as long as the program hasn't been shut down. This meaning, that power cuts and computer error basically just screws your long mission up, with no chance of reconnecting. Has anyone else experienced it in the same way? Symphy 01:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

If there is a power cut, Guild Wars does not shut down 'properly' meaning it is still 'running'. In that case, you should still be able to reconnect by starting up GW, providing you try within the 10 minutes. You can simulate a power cut by just holding the power button on your computer, turning the computer off before it can shut all programs down properly. Time Limit On Reconnect?[edit]

Does anyone know what the maximum time for a reconnect is? T1Cybernetic 10:51, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

15 seconds by Yes, restarts are allowed. --'DAVA 19:08, 12 November 2008 (UTC)

Bug with Party Window[edit]

I played with a friend and 3 heroes each and he had to leave early. Later I got disconnected and after the reconnect his heroes were gone from the party panel. Luckily, I still could command them around. I will retest that when I am done with the FoW. -Khan Reaper Kerensky 20:12, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I can confirm that. Here's an image. Jafar 08:39, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Reconnecting and Entering Character Name[edit]

I can have great connection days, and ones from hell, but I've noticed that re-connection requires me to type in the name of the character I just used on the log-in screen. If I type in a different character, I don't get the option of a re-connect. Can anyone else confirm this, before I blame my Mac? 96.48.131.210 07:48, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Its confirmed on PC. Its a bug with the security question.--193.11.177.82 23:53, 23 January 2010 (UTC)

Most of the time when I do a force restart I can log in without issue with chars of a different name. I was unable to log in with a different name after restarting my PC and then trying to reconnect, however. ➳Araiia 02:39, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Pausing for solo instances[edit]

Just wondering why a "pause" feature hasn't been implemented for instanced areas in which only one player exists. I just lost progress on survivor because stupid computer crashed. That shouldn't happen.--68.69.52.187 00:51, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

you cant pause mmos, something to do with not having enough power to the flux capacitators on the servers 24.130.140.36 01:08, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
strictly speaking, I don't think guild wars functions as a mmo during solo content. The character is in an instanced area and there is no possibility of other users accessing the content. A pause function would probably be easy but not exactly trivial to enable. I suppose a pause that doesn't allow for easy hacking and exploiting would probably involve saving the game state information on the server. Maybe that would was judged to be too resource intensive? More generally, I *do* think it's a bit perverse that the game is full of instanced content that can take 3 or more hours to complete (quests like The Waiting Game for instance) while the game automatically pesters everybody to "take a break" and log out every hour. Perhaps some sort of group "pause" alternative to /resign should have been built into the game originally where all players would be returned to outpost just like with resign but in addition to the start mission buttons, outposts would have a "resume last mission" button where your character and any of the original teammates and original heroes could resume where they left off with the same health/energy skill bar and your current inventory. I wonder if the roadblock was fears of players using that function to sell items mid mission and then return? That would seem to be a small price to pay for an option that would allow breaking up large content into multiple sessions.Driftwood (talk) 15:34, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Reconnect in a new instance[edit]

Also, if you disconnect and reconnect after the party has zoned to another instance or town, the world map will load with no icons except for the instance/town you are currently in. Also, any heroes you have equipped will load their current skillbars, yet have no skills available. Logging out and logging back in fixes these issues. Here are some screencaps. That's not a consistent issue. Or, at least, on the two occasions that I DC'd before the party zoned and RC'd after, heroes had skillbars. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 21:05, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
It's not that the heroes didn't have skillbars, because in the 2nd screenshot, my heroes did have skills on their skillbars. It's just if you opened the skills and attributes panel, they would have no skills available other than the ones they already had on their skillbars. I'll try to match the conditions again sometime to confirm it still happens on my new computer.Blacksheepghost 22:42, 20 December 2011 (UTC)
I should have been more clear: I didn't encounter the same issues you describe. I would expect, however, that the scenario is likely to cause a problem since (while you are disconnected) your computer thinks you're in one area while the server thinks you've moved on. I think it would be safe to suggest to ppls that they should try to wait for everyone in their party to reconnect before zoning, to avoid the potential for problems later. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 03:01, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
