Talk:The bear hunters
An alternate route.[edit]
Another way to get to the bear hunters is to go southwest and use the ford accros the stream. Should that 'short cut' be documented? mtew 04:08, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
More bears.[edit]
If you start west immediately after starting the 'challenge' dialogue and do not get slowed down by other battles on the way, it is possible to kill several more bears beside the two immediately to the east. Should this be added to the Notes? mtew 04:15, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
IS their a minimum level for this quest?[edit]
THe article doesn't say? unsigned 09:03, 4 January 2009 71.193.143.94 (talk)
- First, please sign your comments even if you do not (yet) have an account. Just append ~~~~ to it and the WIKI will insert all the important information for you. Otherwise, anybody interested has to dig the information out of the edit log, which is distracting and delays their response. The more knowledgeable helpers (sysops (not me) in particular) will do this in order to personalize their responses.
- Most quest articles have a 'Requirements' section. That information would be in that section. There are people (somewhat like me) who check articles for accuracy and completeness, If there was any restriction, that section would exist, or a tag to the article would note that the article was incomplete. So, there is no (known) restriction on this quest/mini-game. I personally have run it many times with low level characters, as low as level 3. I personally recommend a level 4 character. mtew 15:08, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Why is this in the quest categories repeatable, prophecies?[edit]
Why is this mini-game in the quest categories (quests:repeatable, quests:ascalon (pre-searing))?
I have no problem defining it as a quest (many fan sites do, it's the only mini-game in pre, it's a rare beast: a persistent mini-game, and newbies won't (yet) care about the distinction). However, it lacks a quest info box and the missing data nerfs the repeatable quest list. Therefore, I recommend that we either...
- ...remove it from the two quest categories or
- ...add a quest info box to the page.
Thoughts? Tennessee Ernie Ford 17:00, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- I added a 'mini-game' quest type to the infobox template and put the quest infobox back here with the type changed. mtew 19:42, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Awesome - a better solution. Looks great. Tennessee Ernie Ford 03:49, 6 February 2009 (UTC)
- ARGH! This is NOT the only Mini-game in Pre-Searing. The Prize Winning Hogs is also a Mini-game of this sort. If you had bothered to look at the List of repeatable quests, you would have seen that this problem had been fixed. mtew 03:36, 10 February 2009 (UTC)
- I would like to know the reasoning behind removing the quest infobox from this and The Prize Winning Hogs (your imitation is just silly Backsword). The infobox provides proper categorization and looks much better than a thumbnailed map. I thought mtew's solution was very nice, and would like to see the infobox replaced on this article. -- Wyn 15:11, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- I also think mtew's solution looks better. I think Backsword has issues with the categorization: is it a quest or not? I think it's fine as a quest since it has an objective and reward. --JonTheMon 15:15, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, using the quest infobox is much better than having nothing or a self-built box there.. And read the "quest" not as a link to the questlog, but to the word "quest". Then it makes sense to list a quest that doesn't appear in the quest log as a quest with the infobox. poke | talk 15:20, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

- As Jon says, it doesnt categorizxe correctly. I don't really have an opinion on pretty looks, it looks the same to me. Backsword 16:03, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know about 'categorizxe', but it appears as 'mini-game' in the Prophecies quest list, so it is in the correct category. In fact it auto-catagorizes to 'Minigames'. mtew 16:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- Given that I added minigame myself, you might consider that it it the removed categories that are in error... Backsword 17:28, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Would someone else please put the infobox back. As things stand, this page is not categorized with the Prophecies campaign nor is it categorized with the Ascalon (pre-Searing) region. I may have created a small problem earlier, but I fixed it very shortly after I became aware of it. While I may have bent the 1RR, Backsword has broken it yet again. I'd say more, but my temper is such that I would probably not like the results later. I've already had to scratch three sentences because they were too intemperate. mtew 20:16, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
- Why not use the {{mission infobox}} ? Backsword 16:03, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- In part, because it does not move you to a new zone and because it is not a story line progress element. mtew 16:38, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- FWIW, whatever everyone ended up doing seems to have worked well. The list of repeatable quests no longer has any glaring issues; everything that's there looks like it should be (I don't know enough to realize if anything is missing, 'tho'). The Bear Hunters page itself looks fine, if not good. So, kudos to any and all who made things better. Thanks :-) Tennessee Ernie Ford 03:46, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Aaand that is releavant because..? Backsword 17:28, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- And: b/c fixing those problems was why I started the thread. Plus: not only was Bear Hunters fixed, but so was Prize Winning Hogs. And: I wanted to thank ppl for a job well done. Tennessee Ernie Ford 20:34, 25 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, that wasn't directed at you. Wikis aren't well suited for discussions and this illustrates that. However, as a convention, indentation level is used to indicate who you are responding to. Backsword 14:38, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Umm, Poke: The Quest infobox DOES autocat for minigames now. I fixed that a while ago. mtew 17:29, 28 February 2009 (UTC)
- Well, I guess. I generally prefer the exceptions to be where you make the change, not have exception code. Not that the QI isn't in need of an overhaul anyway. Backsword 14:13, 2 March 2009 (UTC)
