Dang! I really need to leave some people behind to protect the monk while I go and Find some crystal. Dilemma:"But I cant command each Henchmen.". Best option? Find at least 6 people, get in a BIG helping guild and/or buy NightFall.--ShadowFog 04:30, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

This can be done with pure henchmen (for Prophecies only folks), it just requires a lot of running back and forth to check on Alkar. Heroes and henchmen make this much easier, you can pin 1 or 2 heros with alkar and have enough time to run back and help them once they start to take damage. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 18:27, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

Finally, I've completed the quest. Got 7 people and one henchmen. When you start searching for the crystals, try to lure out each patrol into another area to fight since it's very likely that another patrol has that route as a path or there are two patrols in the same spot, almost 10 foes at the same time. The Lvl 28 bosses(they carry the crystal) have regen and are always without patrol, with a Ranger with Flatbow or Longbow, if he's apart from the mob, try to draw him out from the crowd anytime you get a chance to fight him in another place. Have a group with some interrupts, at the beginning of the quest you are going against some Necromancers with minion master builds, when you start to collect the crystals, the majority are going to be Mesmers and you might want to interrupt the healing and Resurrect spells.--ShadowFog 14:10, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Alkor followed me around and got me killed after I brought him the first crystal...--Ryudo 04:09, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

An easy way to beat this mission is to use this build with 2 Monk Henchmen, 1 Warrior and 1 Elementalist Henchmen. Then just leave the 3 necros back with the guy you need to protect and all should be fine. — Eloc 21:00, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

The article says that the Blastrocks are not linked to the group, and that you can aggro the group without aggroing the Blastrock. Maybe they changed this in an update, since i've done this quest today and the Blastrocks ARE linked to the group. Also, the the mission map points that the last Blastrock is further down the road than it really is, so i was caught by surprised when i engaged some of the derge, and there was a Blastrock amongst them, triggering the spawn near Alkar. -- Pulha 17:26, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Sometimes when using mm Alkar fallows the minions and it's much easier to complete

It seemed to me that Alkar gets attacked as soon as you engage with any group near a Dredge Blastrocks not the Blastrocks itself. I did this with H&H by flagging two heroes (Jora and MOX) next to Alkar and keeping a constant check on their skill bars, running back as soon as they showed any sign of fighting or in fact as soon as engaging with any enemy foe. leave the crystals until all groups are dealt with Moebius the Malign 18:10, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

Did it with H/H today. Flagged Livia and Zhed by the Priest. Livia was set up a minion bomber, and Zhed was set to spike water damage. I took Koss, Dunham, two Monks and Cynn. Koss had Charge! for a party speed boost. Since each crystal is further away than the last, you need it. I flagged my team back and then attacked the closest Dredge just once, and then ran back to help the team at the Basilica. When that first patrol was defeated, I then went back to fight the Dredge and defeat them. I then killed the one with the crystal and ran back to help the team defeat the second patrol. By the last crystal, I just made it back as Zhed and Livia were killed, but the Priest was just fine. It is possible to pull the Dredge away from the Stone Summit. It's annoying losing easy quests because NPCs can't be trusted to do what they're supposed to. Alkar seems to enjoy sneaking behind enemy lines during battles, then dieing. Not the most useful ai there. 71.198.141.251 04:24, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Let's just hope for Fewer "Protect" Missions in GW2 because these are by far the most annoying, and not fun to play. As above poster mentioned. Cannot trust the AI to do their Job. I've failed this 6 times now always on the last crystal because of Poor Henchmen. As an Ele, you can protect Alkar completely and not have enough Firepower to take on the Dredge, or you can smash the Dredge and wiff the quest because Alkar has a mind of his own and wont just stay put. I recommend taking speed boost skills and constantly running back to Alkar. I'm just glad this mission isn't on a timer :P Omnimutant 21:13, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Escort/protection missions are the most annoying missions in ANY game, but yes, I hear you. I just failed the quest with my Warrior on the last blasted Balthazite crystal after investing nearly 3 effing hours into this. I guess it can technically be done H/H, but it's still a major pain in the neck (I failed it even with 7 heroes). The last attack on Alkar chewed through 2 healers and a minion master far too quickly for me to get back. Short story: bring an efficient friend/guildie and go with 2 banks of 3 heroes, or don't bother with this quest. The ugly side of GW. Andran Steel 04:38, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

This has got to be the worst advice ever...do contributors really expect everybody who might be looking for some tips on this game to be "ULTRA-PRO-CASTER"...my friend and I are both warriors and doing this with a party of 2 warriors (both being the players) is extremely difficult and finding a party of players anymore in this god-forsaken game is about as easy as convincing the Pope that God's a hoax. I seriously hope that GW2 isn't so hateful towards warriors and quests like these can actually be moderately completed by them. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.103.162.199 (talk).

Lol... me my issue and i'm not sure exactly how often it happens is this... toss a mm with PwK and koss for tankage at the podium with alkar first 3 crystal yay... on the way back with #4 nice happy wave as usual koss and MoW taking dmg but alkar not taking any so u would think "wow alkars doing great". Got back with #4 and gonna drop it at his feet like you would think would be the end... but apparently that dwarf likes his ale and ran to the sorrows liquor store for dwarven ale because yes, he was at full health but somewhere off compass range. His name was greyed out in the party list while at the podium where he should be. Tried dropping it anyway but no alkar = no end. After i dropped it the sorrows neighborhood watch must have not liked how he looked and decided to attack him as he wandered to the store. Wish there had been time for a screenshot before he got himself killed where ever it is he wandered off to and i got booted back to DWC. How do u protect him at the podium by flagging heros if he wanders off? all 4 crystals gotten all 4 back to podium all 4 dropped there but no alkar there for #4 so not complete. This was about 6 weeks ago and I'm not gonna bother with him for a while with the booze dropping for the 7th anniversary i'm sure he'll probably wander off to find some maybe Nick will give me a keg i can leave to keep him busy.
