Wintersday Contest[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

Hey Gaile, i just have a question about the contest. i decided to send in an entry this year and when i e-mailed it i missed a bit of information. Straight afterwards i e-mailed it again with the information required. I'm just asking if everything will be ok as you could get confused and think im entering twice (which is against the rules). Have you seen any of the designs yet lol, just wait untill you see mine. --Smithyben 21:10, 11 November 2007 (UTC)

This happens from time to time. As a general rule, the best possible thing to do is this:
  • Correct the error as soon as you can. Hopefully the second entry will be right next to the first on in the mail bin, so it's easy to match them up.
  • Send from the same email address.
  • Resubmit the entire entry -- all information, the added information, the identical attachment, and use an identical subject line -- but add, "Resubmitted entry" to the subject line.
  • Specify, "This is a second entry; please delete my first entry, sent (a few minutes ago), (yesterday)" in the body of the email.
  • Explain why you are sending a second entry. "I forgot to include my in-game name," "I didn't put my full address," etc.
  • Please don't send "Could you add this bit of info to my previous entry?" You need to send the whole entry, all information, and the art again.
  • Do not alter the original art entry in any way. That will result in disqualification, out of fairness to the other contestants.
On that basis, you should be fine, and we will delete the first entry and your second entry will simply replace it. I hope this information is helpful to you and others who may have this question. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 23:37, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Gaile, I got two questions. Will the person who has the most artistic talent win, or will the person with the best idea win? And, a little off-topic, how is your Sweet Tooth title going? - Elemonk Nibo 14:27, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Best idea. Artistic talent is worthless if all you draw is a normal sword. For further proof, consult the "beaver" cape design. ;) -- Counciler 20:54, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
I sent it a couple of minutes after it should be ok.

i put in the body "Im sorry about sending this again but i missed out a bit of information" then i added my name and stuff. I didn't alter the image so we should be ok.

Wintersday Contest[edit]

Hi Gaile, I was wondering how goes the contest? How many entries in total and how goes the progress for judging? I realize my little mspaint drawing don't have a Grenths snowball chance in Sorrows Furnace. But really wondering if the winners will be announced on or before the 22nd :) Looking forward to a new hat... no matter who wins Chik En 18:20, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

The judging is complete and the hat has been created by the art team. I think it looks really nice. It's not at all like other Wintersday hats, and it's very in keeping with the spirit of Grenth, and... I think I'll leave the rest for you to discover on Wintersday. ;) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:39, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Cruel ! lol :), you certianly do know how to bait us in gaile Crazy 08:14, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Will you be announcing the winner on wintersday or before? I can't wait to find out what it's going to be! :S --Alien User Alien Sig.png 19:38, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Sweet thanks for the reply... really make me wonder what the hat will be this year... When you announce the winner will they show the art before or after the hat is given out? :) I am gonna guess after to hold the surprise just a little longer Chik En 22:17, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Oh man I lost... but I love what the winners made far better then my own... I think I might have to avoid these contests of art laff Chik En 20:49, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

Wintersday Winners[edit]

Wow you guys must have had a tough time picking one definite winner, I would like them all to be in game (hehe my head in a snow globe). Can't wait to see the winning design in game. Happy Wintersday! -- BroodlingUser Broodling67 sig.PNG 06:33, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

Honestly i felt nian's design was quite uninspired far too similar to the norn crown for my tastes, whereas Mike Nash's design was amazing IMHO, but then i suppose its all a matter of taste. My only issue is that its gonna be another hat where my charecter ends up bald if she wants to wear it. Thus why i prefer the hats which cover the entire head, as the ones which just cover the top part take away my characters long hair and make them look odd. *sigh* -- Salome 12:48, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
I feel the same way as you do, Salome, but still I congratulate all the winners! The designs were beautiful!!!I hope next year they host another create a hat contest for this season! Or maybe for Halloween!!! --Adiana 18:58, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Adiana
Nice art and congratulation to the winner and those selected. But the website indicates there are only 2 hats this year, instead of 4 during last year's event. Is that true? Thanks. Jaxom 20:10, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, two hats: One for Grenth, one for Dwayna. (So you are free to attend the finale in either city, and no rushing between them.)
Oh and the artists have adapted the art for the hat so that no one is bald. You'll see. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 09:02, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer Gaile. Even if I would have preferred to have 4 hats, it's good as, as you pointed out, there's no need to rush to the finale(s) anymore. Now I have plenty of time to go to the beach on January 2nd (for me the finales occur mostly on that day because of the time zone difference - GMT+11), let's hope it's a warm sunny summer day to start the new year :D. Jaxom 01:52, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Warm sunny summer day?! Not while I'm freezing my arse off in the cold, dead of winter! I love the winning entries, by the way, excellent choices. My girlfriend and I had a good idea, but didn't sent it in. I'd share it with you, but on the off chance this event happens again I'm going to save it :D. I did have a quick question, though (which I'm sure will answer itself when the hats arrive). Does the team have some extremely awesome new Dwayna hat for this year or something? Because it struck me as odd only having the contest for Grenth (or, perhaps, did the team not have any ideas for Grenth? :P j/k). Have a Happy Wintersday (and other applicable real-world holidays as well) everybody! (InvdrFlame 04:04, 23 December 2007 (UTC))
Yeah, not everyone lives in the northern hemisphere. Anyway, even on the north side of the equator, it’s still difficult to get snow (or even cold weather) in winter in tropical or equatorial areas ;). To me Christmas + New Year = hot, sun, sea, beach AND summer :D. Jaxom 05:22, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Wintersday Art Contest Prizes[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

Hi Gaile! This may not be the right place to ask but I'm hoping to catch you here. Me(Nian) and Mamath from the Wintersday 2007 contest were just wondering if you have received our emails because Mamath said they haven't gotten any emails and last I heard from you was about a month ago. Would hate to lose prizes because of some email mishaps. :) Just a quick note if you've gotten the emails would be cool. Thanks!

P.S. Funny how the hats created such a big outcry on release but I still see them hanging around in random outposts all the time and I rarely see any other festival hats around. - nian User Nian Sig.png 16:00, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Sucks you haven't got your rewards yet...but i just wanted to agree with you that i really like the hat this year. Awesome Job... Anet get them thier rewards! Coridan 19:24, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, goodness, this isn't an Anet issue, so please don't anyone jump to conclusions! :) As I wrote Nian (and the other top 3 prize winners), the manufacture of the Guild Wars Keyboard was delayed a bit, and Ideazon has not been able to send out the prize packages yet. I did mention this a few weeks ago, but just sent another email to each prize winner -- or at least those from whom we had heard (one was missing until this week!) -- to let them know that I will send an email informing them when the prize package has been sent out by Ideazon, and we will send the special in-game miniature key at that time as well.
We have heard from other prize winners that they have received their prizes, so that's nice. If you were a Finalist and did not get us your information, please write immediately to contests@arena.net and we will fulfill your prize. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 21:23, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the fast answer Gaile! Since I am fron Finland I wasn't really expecting any fast shipments anyway as usually everything I order online takes weeks if not months to arrive and the finnish toll office is also good at slowing down shipments slightly larger than a t-shirt. :P But thanks again for the info and I got the email just now. Just wanted to make sure. :) - nian User Nian Sig.png 22:11, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
To be honest, we haven't had a community contest grand prize winner from Finland before, so I was very pleased to note that. (Finland is on my "must visit" list.) Of course, the fact that you so clearly love the game, and have such exceptional artistic talent, made your winning an even happier occasion. :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 05:13, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Ideazon reports that they have sent out most of the prizes, and are working on a more local distributor to relay the prize to our Australian winner. We're nearly there! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 06:38, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

I heard from Ideazon on Friday, and all prizes that they were sending (Grand Prize through 6th Place) are now either in the hands of the winners, or on their way. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 08:04, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
