Talk:Zoldark the Unholy
Tactics![edit]
Well, since there are a few talks about how to beat this guy on the Dungeon page, I thought it'd be best to start it on his actual page. First off, any way we could get a list of his skills? I'm sure someone is working on that already. Here's what I can remember seeing.
[edit] You can harm him, but he has very high defense, using a max damage scythe I was only hitting for 7 dmg as the high. Holy damage (from Heart of Holy Flame) on the other hand was doing double damage(120dmg).
- Skill 1: Aura of Necromancy(something like that) - causes all minions to steal 15 health per strike for the next 15 seconds
- Skill 2: IAS - not sure what its called, but it increases the movement speed and attack rate of the minions
- Skill 3: Healing - not sure what its called, it gives the minions a health regen
- Skill 4: Rez - again...not sure what its called. This is the skill he uses to rez the minions when they die, it does however cause him to lose 5% of his life, which he does not gain back...ever.
- My first tactic was to have half my team attack zoldark directly and try to keep from using his skills, while the other half worked on defeating his minions, this did not work so well.
- My second tactic was to just kill the minions and force him to rez constantly, doing this you will have to force him to use skill 4, 20 times. That is a long battle against the minions which basically zerg rush, and unless you are set up for a long battle, probably not the best way to go, unless you pull back ever so often to recharge(i could not get the minions to follow very far back at all).
Good thing there is a spawn very close, even with my whole team at 60%dp we just kept going in and taking him out. One thing I noticed is that (and this is probably a bug) when I used reapers sweep(I being a dervish) after his life was less than 50%, occasionally he would "lose" all of his life, even after deep wound ran out. His life would re-appear if I used any skills (i think) on him. However...this meant he would not revive his minions, so after taking them all out, i let my henchies beat up on him till that 1% life left him. And...that is my findings, good luck! 68.104.205.160 00:48, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
Am pretty sure this mission has a bug in it, managed to complete it last night after pounding away at the minions and getting him down to 40% health. My party died and came back then the ranger shot 1 fire arrow at him and the mission completed. Was a bit of luck and i didn't question it as it was starting to get on my nerves a bit. Also the only way to kill him seems to be attacking his minions as you can reduce his life with degen after a certain point. Maybe Kanaxai mechanic where damage stops until a certain condition is met? 82.153.121.173 10:49, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Actually he looses his health because one of his skills gives him +5% maximum health for each minion alive... So as soon as his minions are all dead, and he can't revive them anymore, he'll be de facto near death eventhough he still has the extra maximum health displaying. However given the game dynamics you actually need to him him for the health bar to update (the same issue is seen on Endure pain, where the enemy skill-user only gains the health on his health bar after you did damage to him), so as soon as you hit him, he looses the extra health and even a single point of damage can be enough to kill him. onceagain with hero/henchmen, I found him with an empty health bar (though he still had minions alive) and just casted empathy -> cry of pain and he died. I was always a little confused about that one. -- Mafaraxas 15:24, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

- Is he using a skill similar to Aura of the Lich? If this is so, it may be likely that the apparent health "glitch" is causing him to a) take 1/4 damage (boss take half, and aura reduces by half) which makes him seem to have much more health than he actually does b) sacrifice half and heal half (making him seem to be weak) and c) gain an improbably high amount of health in a blink when the aura expires. This combined with a permanent reduction of maximum health (with the ressurecting of minions) could cause all the effects, as he would gain only upto his maximum health, which would be quite low after all his sacrificing. - Yes he is, it's called Master of Necromancy and it can cause sudden health drops when it ends. --Ckal Ktak 21:14, 13 November 2007 (UTC)
I was wondering if he can bleed. If he can, Lacerate would be a good skill to bring since he does not regenerate. Vezz 16:14, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
- All I can say about this guy is, keep at him. Kill the minions at first, but once he gets down to low health, try killing him. It's strange, but one shot will work at a certain point. Just a word of encouragement, because I was about to quit! --213.92.83.66 21:43, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
Ahum, I agree with some of the bug comments above but rather than his one hit dying, I think that I was unfavourably affected by something rather weird. Zoldark the Unholy kept resurrecting his minions until his health was about 2%, not 25%-50%. Got to say, it took me a while to kill all them groups of minions (I thought I was going to have an eppy, then his chest gave me a Diamond >_<). Anyway, has everyone experienced the 25-50% range and was I just special this time or does it vary some? Shamayim Araboth 02:35, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- My suggestion is to daze him since it says most of his skills are spells and just keep pounding after that to interupt him.It might take a bit but it should work.
- Actually, I have a fantastic friend who loves his ranger - interrupting Zoldark the Unholy works a treat. Shamayim Araboth ~ Ayy 22:10, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Possible Bugged Minions[edit]
Zoldark's minions don't qualify as "summoned creatures" even though clearly they are undead and summoned. So skills like Holy Spear and Unnatural Signet aren't able to garner their benefits from these creatures. --Veraci 15:07, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- They are actually sort of his pets, not summoned cause he is not summoning any minion, just reviving. ----InfestedHydralisk 17:26, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Well the skills he uses to 'animate' his minions are all monster skills, so I'm guessing only 'normal' skills (such as Animate Bone Fiend and Animate Bone Minions) are affected by Holy Spear etc. br12 16:22, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Frozen Soil[edit]
I've not yet been to this dungeon, but wouldn't Frozen Soil prevent Animate Undead? As it is essentially a resurrection spell.
- It does not function as a ressurect skill, however. It actually just spawns new minions, rather than revive the old ones.Secksy 09:10, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
Type[edit]
Regarding Zoldark's "type" - wouldn't it be Zombie as there of the material undead, there are only two - Skeletons and Zombies. Of which, Zombies are fleshy and Skeletons are non-fleshy. As Zoldark is fleshy, he would be a Zombie. No? -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 05:35, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
- Type and 'fleshiness' are set separately, but his minions are probably zombies, so it should be possible to use EoE to check if he's a zombie too. MithTalk 16:24, 6 February 2011 (UTC)
Notes[edit]
The note about killing his minions as being a good way to kill him, is repeated twice in different wordings, shouldn't one be removed? 86.80.183.215 18:39, 13 March 2010 (UTC)
Odd Kill[edit]
I was fending off his minions for quite a bit and after some time he wiped my group. On returning i cast Pain Inverter and there was a flash, he dissappeared and the gold chest appear on my screen. I don't know if this was a bug or is there any sort of explanation to how i killed him. --Smithy-Star 19:45, 6 September 2010 (UTC)

Strategy[edit]
A very good strategy would be a smiting build, right ? If he's undead, it should be very efficient.Galactus 15:03, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Easy Kill[edit]
Bring Great Dwarf Weapon and maintain that on three people. First concentrate on his minions, once most of them are dead and before he revives him most people attack him and keep him permanently knocked down. Finish off the few remaining minions and whittle down Zoldark's health until he is dead. ???. Profit.
- Ofc its an easy kill. Takes a total of 30 minutes to do dungeon in HM - about 2 minute boss fight with two RoJ heroes.--File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 09:42, 3 November 2011 (UTC)
