Could we improve this to skills only? See my sandbox. User Blastedt sig.jpgBlastedtGuildWiki page 16:43, 12 February 2007 (PST)

Any template could be potentially abused. And, short of building in a ton of logic to the template, making it a nightmare to maintain, I don't see any way to restrict it to only skills. --Barek 16:46, 12 February 2007 (PST)

Usage[edit]

How do I use it? :p (Qanar | talk) 11:55, 22 February 2007 (EST)

Nevermind, figured it out thanks to Blasted's Userpage. (Qanar | talk) 11:57, 22 February 2007 (EST)

Mini Skill bar[edit]

Glued together a Template:Mini_Skill_bar made from this one, looks better acording to me =D Biz 09:37, 1 March 2007 (EST)

Parameter names[edit]

Could we please keep parameter names to lowercase? It's alot easier to use, since most templates follows this standard? Uppercase in the middle of a parameter isn't really great... - anja talk (contribs) 10:18, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I will change it :) poke | talk 10:24, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :) - anja talk (contribs) 10:25, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Line-breaks[edit]

Didn't each cell have a fixed width before? Now when the skill has a long name, it stretches the cell instead of making a line break... I'm not sure, but I think it made a line break before. - anja talk (contribs) 11:00, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

The Template:Skill bar npc shows the behavior I'm talking about. I would like it to have a fixed width, if it's possible, so the text doesn't stretch. - anja talk (contribs) 13:08, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
In the new version the line breaks :) poke | talk 13:53, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Love you ;) - anja talk (contribs) 13:54, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Border[edit]

Is there any way to specify a 1px border instead of the 2px one for the inner border? - BeX 10:20, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

which border do you mean? poke | talk 10:25, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
The outline around the skill icons is thicker than the border around the entire bar. - BeX 10:27, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Do you mean this border: Orison of Healing.jpg It's the border from the image itself. poke | talk 10:34, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
O_O! - BeX 10:35, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Well, does that mean there isn't a way to replicate the look from one of the other templates up for deletion? Or is that what you're working on now? - BeX 10:36, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
The other templates use the same images. There can't be smaller borders o.O (of course the border size changes with scaling of the image) poke | talk 10:54, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Template:Mini Skill bar has a border around the images. :< - BeX 10:58, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
But this border is an additional border to the inherit border of the skill images. If you want to, I can implement this kind of border, too :)
Actually I'm working on more options to change the look of the template. Later you can exactly copy the look from an old template with this template. (I have to interrupt my work as I have to go to school for an hour again ;) But I will continue after ) poke | talk 11:01, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
I just thought the example looked nice. I don't think I would ever use the template but it would be neat if it had that option too. :P - BeX 11:07, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
By using the parameter border = direct you can put the border directly to the image. poke | talk 14:20, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Template:Skill bar npc[edit]

Would it in any way be possible to have the {{Skill bar npc}} integrated into this one and possibly add the letters HM in front of the skills only used in HM, I think this is possible using CSS?

User CoRrRan skill bar npc.png

-- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 13:05, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

It would be possible - but why? The NPC pages do have a list and I would be against using Skill bar for this. poke | talk 13:53, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
I think it wouldn't be bad to use a skill bar actually. But that's personal preference I guess.
It would condens the NPC pages more and I like condensed pages. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 13:56, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Then it should first be decided here and then I would rather make a new template for npc pages as this template would be too complex then ;) poke | talk 14:18, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Discussion from obsolete Template:Skillbar[edit]

Template_talk:Skillbar → Template_talk:Skill_bar

There's already a multitude of skill bar templates (see Category:Build templates), is this one really needed? - anja talk (contribs) 19:01, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

I agree, way too many of them hanging around already. The difference between this one and {{Skill bar}} is that this one doesn't have the skill name at the bottom. That can easily be incorporated into the other one. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 21:04, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
And looking at the usage of this, the little text part is easily added outside of template, and the scalable skillbar seems to work in a similar way. - anja talk (contribs) 21:08, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
The only difference between "Template:Scalable skill bar" and this one seems to be that here #if-clauses are used and in the other they are not used. Can someone explain the difference in usage to me? Why include if-statements if they aren't needed?
If there is no bigger difference between them, they should be merged. User Der moon sig.png Der moon 21:19, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
I agree they can be merged but then The "Template:Scalable skill bar" should use if-clauses then. It makes a difference when you use it in another template and you are not sure if the user passes empty skills. If catches those while the normal statement produces gibberish. But yeah, they can be merged, I'm sorry I just tried Skillbar and saw it didn't exists so I created it. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 22:51, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Np, I think that's exactly what alot of other ppl also have done, that's why we have so many :P We can work in ifs in the other ones I guess, shouldn't be any problem. - anja talk (contribs) 09:14, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
I changed the Template:Character infobox today but since "Template:Scalable skill bar" will probably get merged too I used Template:Skill bar so I don't have to double-rewrite the whole thing. Template:Character infobox should now work fine using Template:Skill bar -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 23:41, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
Nice, Nachdenki. I tried it yesterday night but I didn't got through the code in that short time :) poke | talk 06:38, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I have to admit the build-code is not quite easy to read since I can not use line breaks. But because it is my template I didn't have that much problems to change it. Should be fine now. What bothers me is that this template doesn't allow spaces at the end of the skillname but I don't really know why it worked in my template but doesn't work here. If any got a clue on that let me know. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 13:01, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I had the same problem when trying to change your template.. I don't know if there is any special function to trim the parameters again (an automatical trim is integrated in mediawiki). Strange is that it works by using 1 = Skill name | 2 = Skill name | ... - spaces are totally ignored.. poke | talk 13:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I read my way through the Mediawiki and found out why it works with 1 = Skill name | .... Mediawiki says "Spaces and newlines are stripped from the start and end of parameter values of named parameters, but not of unnamed parameters! This is probably a bug." It says there that conditionals (just like If) are known to strip the whitespaces. This is why my template worked. I will change this one right away if I'm able to. -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 15:57, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Just changed it. It works fine now and strips all whitespaces :-) -- User Nachdenki sig.pngnachdenki [ user | talk | contribs ] 16:07, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
reworked it without using an extra table.. CSS can do this alone :P Also added indent = center for a centered view :) poke | talk 17:49, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Background[edit]

Would it be possible to add a background parameter to set the background's color and/or make the background transparent? Fenyx 16:32, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I thought it was transparent.. Hmm, now it is and I added a parameter background. poke | talk 18:54, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you Poke! Fenyx 19:13, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

text color[edit]

anyone care to add link coloring? i'd appreciate that. (Y0 ich->) 84.164.86.150 20:32, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

The problem is that we would need [[Link|<span style="color: #ABCDEF;">Link</span>]] for each (!) link.. poke | talk 20:39, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Dotted border[edit]

I understand this was a style choice over 10 years ago, but is there a reason to keep the unsightly dotted border? No border looks clean and tidy and should not look out of place in any article. Did this simply carry over from the unofficial Guild Wiki way back when? And if yes, or even if no, should we default it to no border instead? - Infinite - talk 22:01, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
