Experience[edit]

I have been playing GW since about 6 months after Factions was released. I play PvE.

What I Love About Guild Wars[edit]

  • (And I hope these things don't change these for GW2!)
  • Amazing scenery
  • Lots of skills (yeah I already know... GW2 will have fewer... sigh)
  • Reconnecting to an instance after disconnect. Wonderful!

Things I Would Change[edit]

  • Some benefit for a weapon with a level 13 requirement.
  • This may sound petty... but my number one pet peeve is... post rez camera alteration combined with claustrophobic rez location. Think about it: you're mad because you just died, and when you come back to life the camera is drifting, pointed at a steep downward vertical angle and who-knows-what horizontal angle. You try to move but you run into the back of the rez shrine. You're in a hurry to get back where you died so you get dizzy as you whip the mouse around to restore the previous vertical and horizontal angles. And then all of a sudden you can't see squat because the camera is zoomed in too close because you are against a wall. Arrrrrrg! How about some open air rez shrines?
  • Did I see a bow string on the GW2 bow? :-)
  • More puzzles like in the Dasha Vestibule mission.
  • Sometimes it is difficult, in particular after not playing for a while, to find the next activity required to continue the primary storyline. For example if the next activity requires speaking to an NPC and you don't know that.

My Characters[edit]

My current characters, in order of creation:

Factions Ranger[edit]

  • 12 million XP, has completed all campaigns, has completed War In Kryta, has every hero except Kieran, 10 maxed titles: Slayer Of All, Legendary Delver, Not Too Shabby, Legendary Spearmarshal, Legendary Master Of The North, Guardian Of Tyria, Tyrian Vanquisher, Protector Of Elona, Protector Of Cantha, Holy Lightbringer.
  • He's my first and most-played character. I almost bailed on GW after a month of play-- with just Factions I don't recommend Necromancer as the first secondary for a Ranger.

Factions Monk[edit]

  • 1.9 million XP, has completed Factions and Eye of the North, 1 maxed title: Protector Of Cantha
  • I'm not into monking, too much time staring at health bars and not enough time enjoying the scenery.

Nightfall Mesmer[edit]

  • 1.7 million XP, has completed Nightfall, 1 maxed title: Protector Of Elona.
  • Mesmers are fun. But about the time I maxed her title I decided to focus on my Ranger and she gathered dust. But she's fun to play periodically.

Prophecies Elementalist[edit]

  • 1.4 million XP, has completed Prophecies, 1 maxed title: Protector Of Tyria
  • Whew. Prophecies is a long one.
  • Despite the fact that dealing damage is fun, and elementalists dish out a ton of it, there's something about elementalists that's not quite satisfying. Maybe I just need to spend more time and find decent builds. One complaint I have is the Fireball skill-- there's no "ball" in the visual effect, and even a wand attack is more spectacular. Give me a break!

Factions Assassin[edit]

  • 1.9 million XP, has completed Factions.
  • I created her to try the Permasin build, but not too much later Shadow Form got nerfed. Sigh.
  • Had a post-nerf Shadow Form build to farm ectos in ToPK. Got about 14 ectos over several weeks. Then they changed the foes in the area (because everyone was farming ectos that way, the entrance to ToPK was flooded with a steady stream of assassins). Sigh.

Nightfall Necromancer[edit]

  • 2.4 million XP, has completed Nightfall, Eye Of The North, Factions, and War In Kryta. Has every hero, even Kieran.
  • I am thoroughly enjoying playing this character. At this point I'd have to say that Necromancer is the most fun profession. Her armor includes a piece from each campaign: Sunspear, Scar Pattern, Elite Luxon, Primeval, and Monument.

Nightfall Dervish[edit]

  • 0.5 million XP, has completed Nightfall. Created this character out of curiosity due to the Dervish skill overhaul. I am still experimenting with what builds are best for a dervish.

March 2011[edit]

Took Ranger and 7 heroes into The Deep (The Deep party size is 12 so my party was 4 short) and I made it all the way to the scorpion room before getting pwned.
