Please don't test dyeability on heroes or from equipment packs. Test with the item equipped on your own character or in regular inventory (not the new equipment packs.) I've seen cases where an item equipped on a hero would not open the dye preview, but the same item would dye when placed in inventory.

If reporting data, please include as much of the following information as you can

  • Exact name of the weapon/offhand and it's skin variant (if there's more than one skin for the name.)
  • Text color, max or non-max, inscribable or not (in the case of white items, did it come from a source known to produce inscribable or uninscribable loot?)
  • Does applying dye to it open the dye preview window or not? If it does open, does the dye affect appear to match what's currently shown here?
  • For loot drops from foes or chests ...
    • Date it dropped (if you know)
    • Map where it dropped (if you know)
    • Foe or type of chest that dropped it (if you know)
  • For collector or crafter items ...
    • Date if was obtained from the collector or crafter (if you know)
    • Which collector or crafter produced it (if you know)
    • Especially in the case of inscribable items, are you positive it's from a collector or crafter instead of dropped blue loot?

Thanks!

I do not bother to note it anymore when I get loot drops of this skin which will not dye. The only dyeable Flame Artifacts I know of come from collectors and crafters. There are two different ways they can dye. LicensedLuny 04:08, 9 December 2010 (UTC)

In June, 2010, Red Fireball from GW Guru forums told me he spent about 60k buying "Flame Artifacts" from crafters and collectors in all campaigns. He tells me artifacts from Prophecies, Nightfall, and EotN NPCs always seem to dye with yellow=neon green, while artifacts from Factions NPCs always seem to dye with yellow=default.

Unknown Source

  • I have two gold, max, insc. flame skin "Flame Artifacts." I don't remember where I got them, but neither will dye. LicensedLuny 21:55, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
  • I have a couple collector blue 20/20 flame skin "Flame Artifacts" which will dye. One dyes yellow=neon green and the other dyes yellow=orange. I don't remember when or from which collector I got each one. LicensedLuny 01:55, 22 January 2010 (UTC)
  • A very nice player let me borrow their three, r9, max gold insc. flame skin "Flame Artifacts" None would dye. LicensedLuny 03:24, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

From Prophecies

  • a blue, max, 20/20 collector flame skin "Flame Artifact" likely several years old and from a Prophecies collector will dye. LicensedLuny 21:55, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

From Factions

  • Apr 15, 2010 - a max, white, non-insc. flame skin "Flame Artifact" from a Rockhide Dragon in HM Silent Surf will not dye. LicensedLuny 05:04, 15 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Apr 16, 2010 - a max, gold, non-insc flame skin "Flame Artifact" from a Locked Chest in HM Raisu Palace will not dye. LicensedLuny 04:15, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Apr 16, 2010 - a blue, max, non-insc. flame-skin "Flame Artifact" just acquired from the collector, Yiwong will dye. Yellow dye makes it look like the default color, like the dye chart here. LicensedLuny 09:02, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Nov. 3, 2010 - a max, gold, non-insc. flame skin "Flame Artifact" from a Kurzick Chest in NM Ferndale will not dye. LicensedLuny 05:44, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

From Nightfall

From Eye of the North

  • a blue, max, insc. flame skin "Flame Artifact" from an EotN collector will dye. LicensedLuny 21:55, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
    • This particular Flame Artifact dyes with yellow dye making it look green, which does not match the dye chart here. I know it came from an EotN collector because it is blue with an inscription slot and built-in +30 (unremovable focus core) and a value of 100g. LicensedLuny 09:15, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
  • Oct 21, 2010 - a max, white non-insc. flame skin "Flame Artifact" from a Chromatic Drake in NM Battledepths will not dye. LicensedLuny 23:58, 21 October 2010 (UTC)
