If you were hit for 40 damage, you would recieve 0 damage. If you were then hit for an additional 110 damage, you would recieve 90 of that damage. Unless, of course, you had put this enchantment up again between those attacks, in which case the 110 would be deducted from the renewed virtual health pool of 60.
