Character bios

I really like your character bios, especially the pictures. How do you do the bordering around the pictures?--§ Eloc § 01:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Done in Photoshop; I make the Wiki layout first, then I just copy the colors and add it in from there. Photoshop supports hex codes, so matching the color exactly is easy. I just use multiple layers to get the border just right; Layer one is the background, Layer two would be the character, and Layer three is the border. (There's generally a few more layers of shadows and effects, but that depends on the picture.)

I generally do the shape of the border using the select tool, but you can do that freehand or whatever, no particular method to that. -- Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 02:06, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Talking about this one, right? That's good old Photoshop right there (Photoshop Elements, as a matter of fact). The dirty, "grunge" look for the background (the black and green) was done with a special Grunge Brush set I downloaded right off of deviantART as well, it's a lot of fun to play with. Yeh, I was just updating the notes to mention that you can salvage mods off... then I noticed "hey, that's different then the others, I'll fix it!". Halfway through that, I found another thing that was different from the rest, and so on. I think they're all about set to the S&F now though, I copied off of a few of the Tormented weapon pages for the tricky parts.

I actually only just saw that build today. :P Just finished leaving a lengthy comment on it as well. Yeh, "Verdamnit!" is in my dictionary too, but the other way sounds cooler. Color formatting

Hey Jioruji. Just thought of asking you this question, perhaps you know: is there an ability to change the colors of default-styled links on Wiki? It's usually done with <style>, but for some reason it's not working here. Dmitri Fatkin 16:43, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

But yeah, [[link|<font color=green>'''Link Title'''</font>]] lets you put whatever formatting you like on the link, and depending on the formatting, it can be placed outside of the link too (I believe '''bold''' and ''italic'' work through the link as well). You need to use a Piped Link; for a template/switch/variable like that, it should work like this:

[[{{{1|Blank}}}|<font color="#00DBA0">{{{1|Blank}}}</font>]]

You're talking to a guy that built his userpage almost entirely using Tables instead of <font> tags, hehe. Until it's officially forbidden to use it, I'll keep using it. The coding's a little easier for me to type. :P But I have no problem teaching other people the "correct" way in that case.

Using your page

That would be great lol. I don't get the very slight background around the character areas. The most noticable, if you don't get exactly what I was saying, is the purple of mesmer around my necromancer. And yeah, I saw how to edit the backgrounds of the info section, where you have it colored an inverse of the ranger. I had to go once I discovered that though, lol. Ah, I see that. I can fix it for you, if you'd like. It's mainly due to the setup I used for the boxes, there's a few extra parts that need color codes, and it can be confusing what goes where.

What I actually meant for picture borders would be something that isn't in my layout; since all my character images are designed to "blend in" with the infobox, you see. Since you're using "normal" screenshots, you could perhaps add a small border to the image (not too tough to add with coding alone), so it's framed a little better. With your permission, I could probably edit something in there of the sort.

I think....

You're missing something in your code several sections above. The code starts a gray coloring to the text but never says when to end it. so....it turned the entire talk page font gray :P. Well, the easiest way to explain how I coded my page would be to just let you have at it; go ahead and edit the page, take a look at the coding I used. It's not incredibly complicated; a good trick is to change parts of the text, click Show Preview, and see what changed.

Just do me a favor and give me a little credit if you decide to copy my userpage code (no credit necessary if you just use it as a guide, of course). =D

As for signatures, Guild Wars Wiki:Sign your comments and Help:Signatures both are good places to start. well, as the guide says, {| and |} tell the wiki where your table begins and where it ends, so anything inside thos two signs will be inside the table. put each on a code line for itself to make it work. now inbetween add a new code line and in that line put a pipe ("|"), then write something behind it. make another line with only the "|-", the sign that now a new table row begins. add another line below that with another pipe and text. You should now have something like

{|
|A
|-
|B
|}

Which should result in "A" written directly above "B". Just play around with the code and use show preview ;) And feel free to ask questions if you have more. - Y0_ich_halt 18:57, 23 December 2009 (UTC)

You have to literally define its style. That means, you simply put the code style="" there and inside the quotes, you put info like background-color: red; border: 2px solid blue;... note the semicolons. you put this style-attribute directly behind the table-start-symbol for styles that affect the whole table (like an overall border). In order to change the style of a row, put the style part directly behin the "new row"-symbol. For a single cell, it's a bit different... You put the style behind the pipe and then add another pipe between the style and the text, like this: | style="background-color:red;" | A
