Wikifu questions[edit]

I have a couple of goals that I am hoping have a wikicode solution, but I don't know enough coding (let alone wiki-coding) to know whether they would be possible. Could you take a gander and let me know what you think? Thanks! (For convenience, I've separated into two subheaders; please combine if you think that would be more sensible.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:41, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Which NPCs use skill X?[edit]

Is there any wikifu (that will work on GWW) that will allow me to automagically create a table that shows which NPCs use a particular skill?

Whenever there's a (PvE) skill update, I'm always curious about what areas might be affected (so that I can plan accordingly). The only tool I know for accomplishing this is: what links here, which returns a lot of mainspace results...and doesn't allow me to sort/filter in any meaningful way.

Automagic list of weapons with property X[edit]

Is there anyway to create something similar to {{quest list table}} for weapons? e.g. to show unique mesmer weapons from prophecies. I believe that some of our manually created tables are still missing info (just tiny bits) and, as new features are released, I expect we'll see a few more collectors and unique weapons. I'd like to be able to show that automatically (even if simply within my own user space).

I tried modifying the quest table for use with weapons, but I got lost in the code. If you think that template could be modified for use with weapons, I'll give it another shot (esp. if you can offer any advice). Thanks for your help.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:41, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

Combined discussion[edit]

Those look like great ideas, and I've actually considered the first before, but I can't think of a way to do that type of thing off the top of my head without creating a category for each skill or weapon mod, which would obviously be a pain. It would also be possible to do it all manually but that would also be a pain and would need to be updated whenever there's a change. I'll think on it a bit and show your question to some others who might have an idea. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 16:43, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Super. Thanks! (There are already a number of weapon cats, e.g. category:tactics shields and category:unique axes, so it might be easier to start with weapons.) Obviously, there's no urgency; the wiki has lived this long without those tools.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:48, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Well things aren't looking too bright for these so far, I'll look into them more in a few weeks when I'm not so busy. Feel free to leave me a reminder. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 18:25, 26 April 2011 (UTC)
cool. (See also: Talk:Reference_of_perfect_mesmer_weapons#2011 suggestion to delete, which would be an article that could make use of dynamic lists.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:25, 26 April 2011 (UTC)

Follow-up[edit]

I've been playing around with possible mechanisms and so far I've created

Unfortunately, both lists are limited by the fact that the info boxes don't have all the relevant data and are used inconsistently. I suspect from looking at other uses of #DPL that I'm missing some opportunities. I'll keep playing around; if you have time to point me in better directions, I would be much appreciative (and if not, I understand). Thanks. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:02, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Hmm I hadn't considered using infobox information to make tables. We might be able to use that for the weapons but we'd have to add categories for the mods to the infobox templates. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 00:14, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
Near as I can tell, even the current use of the infobox is spotty. So, I'm looking at whether DPL can sneak stuff out from other things in an article (apparently, it can, depending on how standard the format is); that's what I'm playing with now. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 00:47, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
wikichu could probably replace the "skills used" section of a creature's page with a {{skills used|skill 1|skill 2|etc}}, but idk if theres a cleaner way to make that useful than categories and categroies everywhere gets sad 24.130.140.36 00:41, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Wikifu follow-up[edit]

So, I originally asked a couple of questions above and I've partly answered them. (See below.)

Which NPCs use skill X[edit]

⟨⟨User:Tennessee_Ernie_Ford/Sandbox_7|skill=[skill]⟩⟩ → {{User:Tennessee_Ernie_Ford/Sandbox_7|skill=Power Return}}

A list table for weapons[edit]

"Is there anyway to create something similar to {{quest list table}} for weapons?"

User:Tennessee_Ernie_Ford/Sandbox_3 is on the way towards producing such a list. It needs to setup switches for each prof and some other technical details. I haven't yet figured out how to get the icons to display via DPL...but I'm still learning.

The most interesting thing my resulting from my efforts is to see how inconsistent we populate data, which makes any automagic solutions...interesting. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 10:22, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm impressed TEF, I didn't think we'd be able to get the skills without adding categories or additional infobox parameters or something to all of the NPC pages. I haven't used DPL before so I'll have to do some research, but I think I can help you out with both of those. I'm at work right now so I can't get into a project like that but I'll take a look at it when I'm at home. Contact me in game later and we can talk about it. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 17:58, 9 August 2011 (UTC)

Weapon fixes[edit]

Thanks for cleaning up all the infoboxes. I caught many of these playing around with DPL, but (a) I was completely daunted by the sheer volume of inconsistencies and (b) I have less time to spend here now.

(I also appreciate you taking the time to call attention to other, related issues and invite comment before following through with a solution. ) – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:51, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

Of course TEF :) although I certainly haven't cleaned up all of them yet. I've only cleaned up infoboxes that are relevant to the groups of pages that I've been cleaning up (weapons and armor so far). I seem to be the only one taking action to format said pages on a large scale in the past 2 years, so I decided to act first and ask for approval subsequently. It's nice to see some approval rather than the lack of disapproval that I've been going by. Thanks. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 02:48, 5 October 2011 (UTC)

GW1 Concept Art[edit]

Help with the concept art would be lovely :) basically what I did was comb the ANet artists' websites for concept art and started uploading what I found, distributing the art in a torrent for all who cared to help me. Unfortunately, although a few people downloaded it (Konig might have a copy if you ask), I was the only seeder, so when the laptop I was uploading the files from got fried, it was all lost. The art is all still on the laptop's hard drive, but that's buried in a box somewhere 200 miles away from my current location, I won't be able to access it until Christmas, and I'm far too busy to go and recompile all that art before then. That said, there's plenty of concept art currently on the wiki that needs organizing, and there's a hell of a lot more floating around on the internet that needs uploading, it's just that if you want to find and upload those you'd be doing most of the legwork yourself. :/
In any event, your interest is welcome! The project page for the concept art is here. Any questions, don't be afraid to ask! --Santax (talk · contribs) 22:47, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Hornbow (Stoneshard)[edit]

Do you recall what exactly needed researching? File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 18:52, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Acquisition, since its clearly incomplete. I'll add a section stub to clarify. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 01:58, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Drop research[edit]

Hello I was wandering if you consider yourself still active in this Project. Since I can see you are still an active wiki user I prefer to save myself double-checking your activity to contributions to Project. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 15:41, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Ya, I mostly do weapons, but I also created Template:Ongoing drop research. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 23:37, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Good news at last, for the past months I have been updating two other Projects (mission and images) without the assistance of other longtime contributors to those projects and had re-written those Projects main pages by myself. In exchange, this time I was hoping if you could do that since you have been active in this Project long before I joined. I have found that the current display looks like the message is directed to somebody else who understands the writter rather to "interested editors". I think it should be easier to read the procedure and much shorter, it is too long in my opinion. What do you think about this? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 01:12, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
I'll take a look at it when I get a chance. You might want to respond to this to give me a reminder if I don't get to it soon. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 05:12, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Okay. By the way what do you think of these templates: Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Projects/Drop_research#How_about_like_this.3F? User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji talk 05:35, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
I think they look great, nice work. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 05:41, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Merges[edit]

re: Merges

It's been ~8-9 months since you've suggested merging articles like Dragon Bow with Dragon Hornbow. There wasn't any significant support, but neither was there any interesting opposition. Should we remove the tags? Or do you want to do the follow-up? If you do decide to merge, the only thing I ask is that you update the relevant formatting articles with the rule of thumb (e.g. same skin, only slight differences due to PvP/PvE versions) — I hope that will reduce the likelihood that someone comes along later suggesting a split. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 09:19, 28 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks TEF! I've been really busy IRL and haven't gotten much chance to do anything on the wiki recently. It looks like Chieftain Alex already handled the Dragon Bow page (thanks Alex!), but forgot to copy over the PvP Reward type, so I just did that. I'll take a look at some of the other merge suggestions if I get a chance, but I'm hoping Alex will too. -- Kirbman 05:55, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Case-sensitive redirects[edit]

We no longer need to create these as the search bar is now case-insensitive. Greener (talk) 22:01, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
