Ally box

Hey Brian, here's a tab for you if ya want it :P {{Guild:Society Of Souls/userboxalliance}} --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Find And Seek (talk • contribs) at 12:17, 6 July 2011 (UTC).

Thanks, I generally avoid userboxes tho, I've got something mentioning Argh in my profile on guildwiki and our guild page here has the alliancebox at the bottom tho so its all good. (Deleted actual box to avoid my talk page being listed as an Argh ally XD ) -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 03:18, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

Your skill suggestions

Are all absolutely terrible. You're basically suggesting changes for the sake of change. No thought was put into almost any of them, you had the right idea with nerfing a few, but have no clue how to nerf it. Just think these out instead of randomly posting changes. --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 16:18, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Please, comment less on the contributor and more on the contribution. If you object to the suggestions, make your own as to what you'd do. It'd be nicer than trying to create drama or make poor assumptions, such as accusing the contributor of not thinking, etc.. Thank you. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 18:29, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
No I haven't met, seen this person or even his userpage, just his useless suggestions which make no sense, at first I was going to post on the talk page of one of his suggestions but then I went through and saw they were all bad, didn't address anything and his reasoning for them was very poor. --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 01:25, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
You've still given no reason, and if you wanted to comment on them as a whole you should have used the page where they're all listed, or even the explanations page. Bringing it here and making it a personal attack comes close to violating GWW:NPA. I noticed that you've now replied on the explanations page too so maybe we can actually get somewhere with this. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 01:44, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I haven't done any personal attacks, I'd be happy to explain to you the faults in each of your skills in-game because I don't have time to go through so many online. --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 01:44, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
We could hop on a public vent server if you'd like. Your main complaint seems to be that they're balance changes rather than rewrites, but if you've got suggestions I'd be glad to hear them. It might help me explain why I've made some of those suggestions too. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 02:31, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Fine with me. Do you have a server in mind?--SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 02:38, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Ya, email me at liteguild@gmail.com and I'll give you the info. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 02:42, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Just pm it to me ingame, I'm not giving out my email. --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 02:50, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Good idea. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 02:52, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Glad we worked that out mate. --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 04:45, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Me too, we should talk again some time. I'll make the changes we discussed and a few others to my suggestions and see what everyone thinks. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 04:50, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Sure, I've got stuff on till next weekend though. --SilvenUser Silven sig.jpg 04:51, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Just let me know here or in game when you want to. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 05:05, 13 August 2011 (UTC)

Deleting posts

You can archive posts, but you cannot delete posts unless they are vandalism. Here's a link on talk pages for gww. 72.148.31.114 18:25, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Per the policy you linked right there:
Users are allowed to remove "spam" from talk pages associated with their own user space, especially if a "warning" has been placed."
And don't say that one post isn't "spam" because he also trolled 2 pages in my feedback talk and I left both of those. I'll leave it now that it has a response and doesn't warrant removal though. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 18:34, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Think of it as the guy trying to get your attention on more than one place. the feedback talks - I'd removed and answered on user talk. As clearly, user has a problem with another user. Most tend to forget to comment on the contribution and not the contributor. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 18:37, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
I checked each post made by the user. It's not all the same. Similar, but I don't believe it's enough to be called spam. However, it's not nice to call another user a troll. That's assumption as well and causes drama. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 18:54, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes they all were slightly different, but the one here is just a repost of the insults from the other two. I left the other two because they are in the right places, aren't entirely insults/attacks, and I hope they might lead to something constructive. He did troll my pages, so that's why I referred to the posts as trolls. I haven't looked through his contributions to determine whether that behavior is normal for him or not, so I don't know if he himself would be considered a troll in a more general sense. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 19:20, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
I am glad to see that you two did work something out. :-) It can help sometimes to see what's the matter or why someone has a problem and see about working it out... Sure, it may cause disruption, etc. but you offered your email and that didn't work - there's in game, etc. Always a way. I'm willing to work with people, here, other wikis, email, in game, etc. I may seem like a "b", but I'm not. Like others, I have my good days and my bad days. No one is perfect. 72.148.31.114 07:53, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I'm guessing (based on contribs) that 72.148.31.114 is Kaisha. I'm glad we worked something out too. We talked on vent and he turned out to be reasonable and even friendly. He gave some good criticism, I explained some things, and we came up with some ideas together to improve my suggestions. We only got through part of the suggestions though, so I'm hoping to talk to him again after I finish updating the suggestions (oh ya, still need to add changes to monk skills), which takes a while because of the explanations and balance considerations. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 18:19, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

"we don't include numbers in salvage"

Uh...really? How come some/most of the salvages for trophies list an amount, then? Plague Idol for example. 76.78.119.108 01:26, 19 August 2011 (UTC)

OK we don't in weapons. I think it might be a good idea but I doubt we have enough research to back it. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 01:37, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Trophies are easy to farm and thus you can get a decent average number. But some weapons are really hard to get, and no one would want to salvage to test and see what they salvage into. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 15:52, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
Some can give different amounts too each time. 72.148.31.114 07:08, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
For once you have a point that I can agree with, and I must admit that I completely overlooked this reasoning. The reason amounts shouldn't be listed for weapon salvages is because the amount of salvage will always be determined by the relative value of the weapon. That is to say, I could get a Fire Wand drop in Old Ascalon worth like 5 gold. It'll give me 1-2 Iron Ingots no matter how many times I salvage it. But if I get that same Fire Wand drop on the Ring of Fire Islands (chain?), it'll be worth maybe 100 gold, and it would give me like 7 Iron or something. Trophies don't work this way because they have a stable value. Theoretically, the solution would be to list every salvage as a variable range, much like vanquish kill counts are currently done - but that isn't helpful to anyone unless we also kept track of the relative values of the weapon. Like, what if I got a Fire Wand in Kryta worth 35 gold? It would give more than one but less than 7 Iron. That's not very useful information.
So yeah, I retract my original complaint. It's perfectly logical to remove such information, and I apologize for not realizing it before. 76.78.119.108 07:44, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Exactly and I think that's why most trophies, etc. don't have the amount, but what they can salvage into. 72.148.31.114 07:49, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I think it's okay to list salvage amounts on crafted weapons (i.e. Charrslayer Focus), since they have a fixed price, unlike weapons that drop from foes or chests. Several of the Eye of the North common armor currently list salvage amounts (e.g. Chaos Gloves, Crown, Glacial Gauntlets). --Silver Edge 08:02, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Those with time on their hands (hint hint nudge nudge) could start collecting weapons, noting their merchant value, and salvaging them. There's probably a pattern linking the merchant value to the salvage results; if I had the data, I could help figure it out, but I don't have the time to collect the data. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 16:26, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
True. I know Plague Idol is dropped in several different areas and can give different amounts (other than what was on that page). I think the weapons would be alright, but trophies? That, imo, would be harder to "justify" the salvaging amount as it can differ. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 16:31, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Armond, that seems feasible but I think we would need a new project for it and I doubt it would get much response.
Kaisha, I'm not sure if you mixed up your words there or what. Trophies salvage into fairly consistent amounts of materials while weapons can salvage into a much wider range in the amount of a material. All instances of one type of trophy are the same, while instances of weapons are, for the most part, all different. Factors for weapons include what dropped it, it's rarity, its sell value, requirement, whether or not it is highly salvageable, it's damage/armor/energy, and mods. I think the type of salvage kit used matters too. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 18:45, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Um, actually plague Idols can salvage into one iron ingot or two or even more than what's listed. I've had it salavage from two up to 5 iron ingots (when doing canthan courier). Depends I think on more than just the kit used. it can vary. Maybe a 'drop research' would be better though. Just what some can salvage into would be better than the amount. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 18:58, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Might have something to do with the "new" WoC Am Fah mobs? However, I had a stack of over a hundred of these, which all dropped from the oldskool (weak) Am Fah. I salvaged all of them for iron, and I was consistently getting 3-4 (and maybe 5 once or twice) like the page says. So I'm not sure where you got a Plague Idol that salvaged to one or two. 76.78.119.108 19:06, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Just sayin' it could happen. I've only had one salvaged into two after WoC. Thought that was a glitch, but it can vary. I'm just into seeing facts more so thn assumptions of how much they salvage into, when it can even be more or less than like what was placed on that page. It can just vary. It'd be nice just to display what they salvage into, imo. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:18, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
I didn't argue anything about plague idols but alright... I advise taking a screenshot of the chat log next time you get a salvage that is out of the currently listed range (2 or 5 in the case of plague idols) and change the listed range. That way if anyone challenges your number you'll have a screenshot as evidence. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 19:44, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
It's an example. I am reading what you all are writing. Please, don't disparate the editor. Also, as I just mentioned. Since, salvages can vary with what one gets and how much, etc. Wouldn't it be better just to list the things that these items can salvage into, instead of the numbers as well? Oh, check this out Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Formatting/Items#Salvage_Amounts and there's this project GWW:PR/DROP. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 19:57, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Reading the formatting/items talk page. Apparently, it turns out that adding the numbers doesn't get the page categorized with the common or rare salvage contents and that one would have to manually add the category. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 20:04, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
how are you being disparaged? 24.130.140.36
This was in the summary "I don't think she's actually reading what we're writing..." Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 20:11, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

You guys are fast, every time I try to reply there's an edit conflict. Anyway, sorry about that, I figured if you read that and responded it would show that you really are reading everything. I shouldn't have been so blunt. It was in response to your response starting with "Um, actually" being on a different topic than what it was a reply to. That project you listed might be a good place to start for a new project. -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 20:15, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

It's alright. I'm not bothered by you being so blunt, but just wish it was nicer a tid bit. :-( . I saw that project page listed via one of the formatting pages. I was researching, wondering if this numbering, etc. was brought up on the formatting pages and found them two links. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 20:33, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
If anyone wants to start up a project I'd be glad to contribute data. We'd need to find a way to modify the infobox templates to do the material categories automatically (which should probably be done anyway, it's pretty buggy from my experience). -- User Kirbman sig.png Kirbman 00:30, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

PvP rewards in PvE

Yeah, After alex did that change I remembered that you had to equip it. I hadn't tried to do so in two years so I completely forgot about that. 184.179.78.65

My thoughts exactly. I'm a little bit of a wiki noob when it comes to code for replies and such, so I figure this is the only way I know for sure that you'd notice I replied. :P I'd noticed they changed it to work with zcoins, so I'm working my way through the skins for a Cold Damage Embersteel Blade (To throw off people in PvP who carry multiple shields)184.179.78.65
