Your Gaming rant[edit]

I would like to say I agree with you for the most part. I do have a problem with bots and gold selling, as I think it lessens the desire to actually play the game if you can just go out to a gold selling site and spend some real $$ and then come in and buy whatever you want, I also have a problem with people making real money off of a game owned by another company. I had the same issues with Diablo II, even though I had lots of friends who were making their rent by selling game items.

I do agree that the GWEN consumables and pve skills have tremendously reduced the merit of titles. I will not say that I don't use them or that I didn't use candy canes to get my guardian and vanquisher titles because I did, I still feel the titles I have acquired through my own playing skill are worthwhile to me, though garner less respect or acclaim from the community than they would have prior to their introduction to the game.

As to the dumbing down of the game in general, I think that is a product of time. When the game is new, and all the players are on the same basic level, there is more of a desire for the challenge to master it. As time goes by however, the new players feel like they are missing out because they are so far 'behind', Without a continuing influx of new players, Anet has no way to generate income since they have given us this wonderful game without a monthly subscription. So, they make it easier for them to 'catch up'. Of course this leaves us veteran players feeling cheated because we had to work for the things we have.

Sorry for the wall of text, but it was a good read, and I thought it deserved a good response. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 06:49, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

That is true, it just felt a little old with the flip flop that happened with the game. Back in Prophecies day there was constant balance for PvP with little care about the PvE repercussions. Sure there was the odd update for PvE but there was always heavier attention given to PvP in hopes to have balance. When ATs are announced they're months late, Nightfall skills throw everything out of whack, and PvP becomes a complete mess. Anet becomes afraid to balance skills because of the uproar of complaints they'll get from the PvE crowd, despite the series of changes done over time to make the game 'harder'. Now the skills are split, ladder play is apparently a big waiting game, and elite areas can be cleared faster than it takes to make a group. I think back to when Protective Bond was nerfed, Dying Nightmares added to Underworld, Spirit Bond changed to 10 hits... and now Shadowform makes you almost completely invulnerable. If you were to go back in time 3 years, maybe even 2 years and tell people the changes that happened they would probably laugh at you.
When I think about how the challenge is gone I look at Capcom and their release of Megaman 9 for the Wii. Completely new game and it's an 8 bit experience that apparently holds a candle next to it's NES predecessors in almost every aspect. That makes me smile and gives me good reason to get it as soon as I can. Despite Diablo II being 8 years old now there was still an update two years (or one year?) ago that added a new challenge to the game for the players. To me it feels odd that Guild Wars would take it in the opposite direction, which does lead me to the same conclusion that is has to be a money thing. It's unfortunate that the roots of the game had to be diverted to accommodate the financial need. Racthoh 08:25, 17 October 2008 (UTC)
