Talk pages and blanking

Please do not remove content from talk pages, instead, consider GWW:USER. Also, blanking pages, such as in this edit is deemed as unconstructive and could earn you a temporary block from editing the wiki. --Santax (talk · contribs) 19:00, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

User talk:Santax

Please carefully re-read my comment to your fist post on Santax' page. Then re-read the following direct quote from yourself: however for you to discern that no one was offended by the post and that no one saw it as a personal attack on certain very well respected members of this community. I specifically stated that I know for a fact that all the sysops that I talked to did NOT find it offensive. Nowhere did I state that no one was offended. I'm sorry, but you seem to be reading things that aren't there. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 20:19, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

User:Raptors/Admin Rank

I think you missed the part at the very bottom in all caps, and bolded where I said THIS IS JUST A JOKE. Please, don't do that again, thanks. --- Warrior Raptors

Bigotry

I think you misunderstand what I was trying to say. I was not saying "poor people use profanity." I was saying that some people are okay with profanity, even though, generally speaking, people from within my own culture do not. Nothing I said was prescriptive about any other particular culture. If you want to single something out, there is an identifiable subculture that includes generally poor, predominantly minority, usually single parents who swear at children. It is not bigotry to notice that this trend exists -- just like it is not bigotry to say middle class white American families generally frown on swearing, especially within the family. —Tanaric 18:50, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

My Design-A-Weapon Entry

Regarding your comment on Gaile's talk page. I'd just like to know what bows in game have a flame enhancing the bow similar to how the flame enhances the sword part of the Fiery Dragon sword? That was the point of my entry...I want to see a bow with that type of effect...and as far as I know there is no such bow...as far as I know swords are the only weapons in the game to have such effects except for the Storm Bow. I suppose if the devs didn't get that point that may be the reason I didn't even make the finalist's...I figured I drew the flames well enough. Guess I didn't.--Thor79User-thor79.pngTalk 06:32, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

If I had had more time I would have added color to it so that it looked a bit more like a flame, but as it is I finished it up just in time to submit it. The version I sent into Anet did have the text "The Inferno Bow" as a suggestion for a name. I did not post this version on my user page though. I can see why you would think it was a vine without some sort of color or animation. I can only do so much on a static image though.--Thor79User-thor79.pngTalk 20:57, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Copyright issue

Hi, could you not copy from GuildWiki directly? I can see that you changed the infobox and such, but our GWW:NPC is not just the infobox. Also, if you don't have anything to add except for the skills and location, tag it with {{npc-stub}} and leave out the notes and description. Those are where GWW:COPYRIGHT would apply. Thanks. -- ab.er.rant sig 05:42, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I know there are GFDL contributors on those articles you brought over, but... it's a little icky to see almost exact copies on both sites. -- ab.er.rant sig 05:44, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Yeh matey, i agree. I just wanted the frame work over so i could work on it. -- Salome 05:46, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, if possible, try to work on it first then save for the first time, since a copyright article actually have to be totally removed from the viewable history :) -- ab.er.rant sig 05:52, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Abberrant for bcrat

are you sure you wanna nominate him for bcrat? the question is, do we need him as sysop (deleting stuff, blocking vandals, helping everyone and so on) or as bureaucrat (assigning admin status and being member of the arbcomm). last time he lost only very closely because many people, including me, voted against him. we wanted to keep him sysop, because we think there's other people who'd do the bcrat's job at least just as well. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 21:56, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm sorry but i dont agree with you, I understand your point but at the same time i feel that if he wishes to be considered for being a beauracrat then he should be and that fact that he has performed admirably as a sysop should not work against him. I dont think one can justify voting against someone due to that person performing their role admirably. I feel personally that he has proven himself to be a capable individual and that we as a community have no right to hold him back from being considered for the role of beuarocrat just cause he has performed his role as a sysop so well. I know that being a beasuracrat is more of a side step than a step up as it's a compleatly different role, but at the same time I believe that abberrant has proven himself to be capable in a position of power and if he wishes to puruse new challenges though being a beauracrat we have no right to stand in his way for the sole reason of being too good at what he does. It just seems unfair to me, to punish someone for performing their duties correctly and admirably. Anyway i know ive ramabled a wee bit and i apologise, im knackered so my typing isnt the best at the mo, but i hope the essecense of my point got across at least. -- Salome 23:44, 6 February 2008 (UTC)
I disagree with you, Salome. You're espousing the common Western ideal that people should be promoted to the level of their incompetence. For example, you're an awesome fry cook at McDonald's, so they promote you to front-end. You're awesome at managing the front-end, so they promote you to general manager. You're awesome as a general manager, so they promote you to regional manager. You're an awful regional manager, so you stay there. People (in the West, at least) are always promoted one level beyond what they can handle well.
This is why people often complain that their bosses are incompetent -- they usually are!
In Ab.er.rant's case, I'm not suggesting he'd be an awful bureaucrat. I am suggesting he'd be far less capable as a bureaucrat than as a sysop, and so he should not be promoted. It's better for everybody -- especially Ab.er.rant -- and doubly so when there are other candidates at least as well suited (Auron and Tanetris spring to mind).
Tanaric 15:29, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
did aberrant even say he wanted to become bcrat? iirc he always got nominated and said something like "well, if ya want me to be bcrat, i'm ok with that.", and tbh, i think i know what you mean, tanetris, but i don't really like how you explained it :) i just can't think of a better explanation. - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 20:25, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Yeah Tanetris, why would you ever write something like that, you big jerk? *whistles innocently* —Tanaric 22:21, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Well no offense to either one of you,as i respect your opinions, but honestly we can not know how good aberrant is at being a bureaucrat until we give him a go at it. You are both assuming a great deal about his capabilities in comparison to others. Also Tanaric I disagree with your analogy, are you then arguing that if aberrant was a superb fry cook he should just stay in that role, even though if given the chance he could possibly make a superb CEO of the company. That is an absolutely ridiculous stance to take surely and completely discounts the process of proving you are capable, gaining peoples respect and progressing and furthering ones skills. I also take great exception to the ethno-centric viewpoints you put forward here. Sweeping generalization that you can never justify or support do not help anyone in the long run and ultimately only clouds one view points. If you ever start a sentence with "these people are...." or "this society is..." and then progress with some level of social generalization, chances are you should rethink your own personal bias before opting to spew it upon the world. I'm not going to engage however upon another argument with you Tanaric about your tendency to generalize based on social and economic factors that you believe effect societal structures and functions. I'm just going to politely request that you keep your biased social commentary off my talk page. As you are more than welcome to discuss things with me here that are relevant to any issue at hand but a socio-economic debate is not needed in this instance. In closing I stick with my nomination, if aberrant wishes to take it further or not is his to decide, not I. I put him forward in good faith, in that i believe that he would make an excellent bureaucrat and i stand by it. -- Salome 01:56, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about and suggest you read my comment again. It contained nothing about social or economic factors, contained nothing beyond the intrinsic bias of being my opinion, and contained neither of the phrases "these people are" or "this society is."
If I posted somewhere that only rich whites are allowed to be bureaucrats, please toss me a link so I can embarrassedly leave the wiki, never to return. Otherwise, I think you owe me an apology, at the very least.
Tanaric 08:04, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
No, I never said you were racist, I said you were being socio-economically biased and i can throw you two links that in essence say 'people in the west take this viewpoint....' (see "You're espousing the common Western ideal that..." and "People (in the West, at least) are always...") and 'poor, single parented families from minority groups are ...' (see "...there is an identifiable subculture that includes generally poor, predominantly minority, usually single parents who swear at children..."), both of which show cultural and social bias. This is fair enough as all of us are socially biased to a degree as their is no true escaping ones own bias. However in the two major dealings I've had with you, you've shown an unnerving willingness to put forward your own social commentary as reasons for your standpoint in the wiki. Personally I feel that one should endeavor to recognise ones social bias and try and distance themself from that bias in making decisions and justifying ones actions, as that is the only true way to even approach being an objective commentator, you however seem to embrace your bias and use it to try and give grounding to your oppinions. I personally find this stance somewhat distasteful and thus my request for you to keep your social commentary off my talk page unless the topic at hand calls for its consideration and the debate lends itself to a consideration of the wider scope of social commentary. Tanaric I have nothing against you as an individual and I wish you luck in the coming election, however i would just rather you not use my talk page as a sounding board for your social commentary when it is not needed. -- Salome 13:05, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
Thank you for making your reasoning more clear. That said, I think you should re-read my above post again and reevaluate your own negative reactions. Never did I say that "people in the West take this viewpoint." I said "I've only got significant experience with those in the West, and since odds are good you're also from a Western culture, I'm using an analogy that I feel will helpfully explain my viewpoint while simultaneously identifying the social context in which my analogy takes place and explaining why the analogy might not make sense if we don't share a similar background." In neither case did I use social commentary or bias to justify a point -- I used an analogy based on social commentary familiar to most of my readers to explain a point from a different perspective that may be easier to understand. —Tanaric 01:57, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

Program

What program do you use to edit screenshots? If you use photoshop I can send you the layer template for the armor dye chart. Did you see my reply on my talk page? - Bex User BeXoR sig.gif 13:06, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

oh god, sorry bex, I forgot to reply. I read it but it completly went out of my head. Been preparing for a tribunal on monday and a crappy seminar down in manchester tomorrow that i have to attend, and a tutorial i have to give on tuesday, so been in a bit of a tizzy about it all *stressed*, but really am sorry for not replying. Anyhoo as for the program i use to edit it, well ill be honest im A) crap with computers and B) use cheapo programs on said computer. Thus I'm using Gimp for the cutting and copying (as it has a nice wee go to xy option for the cutting thingy which means i dont have to mess about trying to do find the edges with my mouse button) and using normal microsoft paint for the pasting malarky. I'm probably doing it a really long and labourious way as each armour set per gender is taking me about an hour or so to format. If you know a faster more effiecent way for me to be doing this, please tell me as it would be appreciated. also, i know im gonna sound like a complete noob (mainly cause i am with this stuff) but whats a layer? -- Salome 13:48, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
No worries. :) I hear good things about Gimp but have never tried it. Are you doing dye charts like Image:Mesmer Elite Canthan armor f dye chart.jpg and Image:Mesmer Asuran armor f dye chart.jpg? A layer works like having images pasted on top of each other without them merging. My dye chart template has a layer for the dye vials, a layer for the border, a layer for the cloud render and a layer for the dye pics (11 screenshots cropped a merged into one layer). It helps because all I have to do is crop all my screenshots into one size and then arrange them and paste them into a layer in the image. Then the border and cloud render and dye images layer on top and I don't have to redo them. :) - Bex User BeXoR sig.gif 14:57, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh i get it now. thank you for the offer love but I dont think it will help me as im going on a simpler approach of just cropping, copy and pasting the dye preview screen into a composite, with out borders and dye jars and the like. My intent is to show what dye looks like on all the pieces in their entirety so that people get an idea of how it dyes in regards to pigment and design over the entire armour and i kinda like the format im using at the moment. (my motivation mainly being due to me buying ranger norn armour and finding out it dyes MUCH darker than i thought it would annoyingly.) I like your dye charts but I just dont want to complicate thigns further for myself at the moment as i said, im a complete numpty with computers. Thank you for the offer though. -- Salome 15:23, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Raven, i wish i could take the credit for it though but i cant. user:Lensor is the girl who designed the template i adapted for use on my user page. She's a wee wiki-wizz! Thank you though for your nice comment. :) -- Salome User salome sig.png 14:51, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
OH MY GOD.... I was updating the info on my page, using your template that you got from Lensor, and omg... we have the same birthday! Except I'm an 85'er. haha.. too cool. -- RavenJWolfe Talk 21:52, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Help!

I'm very confused about this. For the past couple days, I've been trying to change the Ranger Icon to a Warrior Icon, and change the name from War Blizzard to Legendary Blizzard. Could you possibly do this along with changing the link to Legendary Blizzard and make a blank page for mesmer, paragon, and ritualist? --Blizzard 22:06, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

i made a little change. if that's what you wanted, keep it. otherwise, just revert or adjust my change. anything else i can do for you? - Y0_ich_halt Have a look at my page 21:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Dude...

Epic userbox. I'll add that in ASAP. Thanks! :D --User-Wandering Traveler Sig.png Wandering Traveler 04:05, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

no worries mate! also don't worry about what shadowsin is saying, he'll be banned shortly for what he posted on your talk page. As it was a total breach of wiki policy. He's just being pissy as his mate got banned and IMHO got banned for a very good reason as he has been trolling for weeks now. So good on ya IMHO, you did the wiki a service! -- Salome User salome sig.png 04:08, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
pahah, yeah. its a bit annoying, but he's just full of hot air. I'm wondering if he's a sockpuppet of that other guy with the X-rated story (I can't remember his bloody name >.<), because there was an exact copy of it for his userpage. but oh well, he'll get his just dessert soon. and it'll be quite bittersweet :) --User-Wandering Traveler Sig.png Wandering Traveler 04:24, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Either way mate, I think it best you drop the argument on his talk page now. It's been reported. continuing the argument with him is just fanning the flames. It will be resolved soon, so I think its probably most conducive for all those involved to just let the admins sort it, as they will shortly. :) -- Salome User salome sig.png 04:28, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
one step ahead of you on that; just read what you said on his. I can agree to stop, I was hoping he would have a change in heart....apparently I was wrong. :( --User-Wandering Traveler Sig.png Wandering Traveler 04:38, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Neopaganism

So I'm guessing by your sig that you are into neopaganism?--Ryudo 14:17, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm a bit of a mish mash if i'm honest. I trained to be a roman catholic priest for awhile, but then decided against it and went into law. During this period however i jumped around alot into a fair few different religions. In amongst these we're a few which could be considered forms of paganism and neo-paganism. I suppose the most easily recognizable being that of Wicca. However although i found the religions both interesting and enlightening, ultimately they didn't suit me very well. I now believe in a mish mashing of many different ideals from many world religions, with alot of the ethics essential to paganism included within them. Thus the use of the Pentagram, as i like the symbolism of perfect balance and harmony of the essential components of existence and life. Hope that gives you a wee insight into my sig anyway. blessed be. -- Salome User salome sig.png 17:13, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Maybe your sig should use the symbol that's on Disturbs' Album Believe ([1]). The album cover is a culmination of many religious symbols including Paganism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. On the album are a Star of David, a Pentagram, a Crescent Moon, and a Cross all superimposed on each other. Eloc 20:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
