Topic, the First

Have at me, ya swabs!

Welcome to GWW. How do you like working at ArenaNet? I plan to try and get a job there someday. — Eloc 02:07, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
ArenaNet is a great company. Lots of creative juice flowing through the halls, very open atmosphere, amazing people. You might think I'm just blowing smoke up someone's skirt because this is the official site, but I love it here. It's the best company I've ever worked for and the best job I've ever had. - Cheers - Will McDermott 19:13, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Sounds pretty sweet. You'll have to help me get a job there someday ;P — Eloc 01:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Can I Have Your Autograph?

Perferably on a large bank check made out to "Cash." That's my nickname. Bobby Stein 07:06, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Funny, funny man. For those of you who haven't frequented Bobby Stein's page, he is my boss, and thinks he's very funny. Seriously, though. I do have boxes of books in my closet that just sit there. I am more than willing to sign them and send them off for the cost of the postage on the books. - Cheers - Will McDermott 19:19, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Every time someone says "cheers" I think of them hitting their monitor with a glass of beer. Do you do that?- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 16:27, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
To the consternation of many of my writer friends, I do not drink beer - just never acquired a taste for it - so I would have to toast the monitor with a can of diet coke. - Cheers - Will McDermott 14:57, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
It was a joke, homie.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 15:01, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, then that would make Dir an absolute drunk considering how many times he says "Cheers" in discussions. Calor (t) 16:36, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
That would be hilariously badass.- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 16:38, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Wouldn't be too good for his monitor, either. -- Brains12Talk 16:40, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
But Emerald would say it would be a happy monitor :D- VanguardUser-VanguardAvatar.PNG 16:47, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Postage, eh?

Well, How much does it take to send out a copy of The Moons of Mirrodin? Mirrodin has to be my favorite Magic: the Gathering storyline and a signed copy would make all my nerd buddies totally jealous!--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Tivadar44 (talk).

I haven't checked in a while, but I would guess a couple dollars, book rate (which would take a while to get there). Probably double that for first class. Glad to hear you liked the storyline. While I didn't develop it initially, myself and the other authors (former ArenaNet writers Jess Lebow and Cory Herndon - good blokes both) developed a lot of the themes and most of the characters in those books. - Cheers - Will McDermott 15:03, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!! finally, a human being who knows what magic the gathering is! (but Mirrodin? honestly Lorwyn/ Shadowmoors cooler) Mcdertr 00:46, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Actually, you would be surprised by how many people at ArenaNet play or have played MtG. Don't tell me you never noticed the similiarities between building a Magic deck and putting together a GW skill build? Oh, and Jeff Grub (author of The Brother's War and the Gathering Ice trilogy) is our story guru. BTW, I have a story in the Shadowmoor anthology, and yeah, Mirrodin had its flaws, but I still like that book. Thanks for stopping by. Will McDermott

Hey wait my my last names the same as the owner of this talk page........... wierdMcdertr 00:47, 15 June 2008 (UTC)

Couple of months later... at least I realized some similarities between those two games. Recently MtG logic lead my way in this paragraph. You know, people tend to mess up loss if life and damage (which causes loss of life). My mesmer even sometimes feel like Drop an island, go!, oh wait, Aegis? I'll force that (aka Power Spike). Question about the Ferndale explorible area

With you being a writer for Anet and all I figured you would know or be able to find out the answer to my question. The explorable area Ferndale in the Echovald Forest, well me and a few other local guild wars players were wondering if that area was named after the city of Ferndale Washington (its around 2 hours north of Seattle not far from Canadian for those who don't know this)? Me and a few others who live outside of Ferndale have always wondered if the area was named after Ferndale whenever we venture through the area. Thank you taking the time for reading this. Tog

I have checked with a few folks who were around during the creation of Factions (I started about a third of the way through Nightfall development), and no one recalls that this was named after any place in particular. It is possible, but I can't give you a definitive answer. Sorry. Will McDermott

Well thank you for at least giving a response and trying. Tog

MTG

Yeah, i've read some of your MTG short stories, don't think i've read any of the whole books. Great works I must say, of course I don't know much about writing. Pjstaab 01:58, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I always appreciate hearing from folks who have read my work. Glad you enjoyed them. Will McDermott
I lied, I read Moons of Mirrodin. Really enjoyed it.
Why, thank you. Will McDermott

So...

How happy were you guys that they finally made a "summoning sickness" reference in the game? ^^ I see that you guys are all Magic fans and writers so, figured that was bound to be added at some point. Katherinezoltin 19:41, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

Greetings!

From a new stal- I mean fellow writer (though not professional here) and MTG lover! Although I have not read any MTG novels, loved the card game (still have all of them sitting right next to my desk) and I do intend to get to reading some novels (once I clear the 20+ on my list now). Any suggestions on what would be a good novel to start with for when I get to there? One thing I am curious about, what are some things you wrote regarding Guild Wars itself? (since all you say are the games you worked on) *also, any tips for a writer? ;)*-- Azazel The Assassin\talk 20:20, 14 May 2009 (UTC)
